Project Management Higher Apprenticeship - 2017 start
As part of a £multi-billion transformation programme, every process we’re involved in – collecting, sorting, transporting and delivering mail – is changing. Individually, these changes will help us work more efficiently and deliver a better service to our customers. Together they’ll have an important impact on the success of the business as a whole.
To drive these changes, we’ll be more reliant than ever on quality project management, and more supportive and focused on developing the people who’ll take on the challenge. Join us on this new apprenticeship programme and you could be among those to benefit from that commitment.
About the programme
On this two-year programme, you’ll complete a series of placements at Royal Mail locations around London. You’ll get a fascinating insight into how different parts of the business operate, the relationships between them, what we do well and where improvements could be made.
Working alongside experienced project managers, you’ll learn how to figure out what a given project would involve, in terms of time, money and expertise. If it makes sense from a financial and business point of view, you’ll go on to create a project plan, pulling together the right team and resources to make it all happen.
With time dedicated to class-based study with our specialist training partner, you’ll work towards an NVQ Level 4 in Project Management. And at the end of the programme, you’ll also be a member of the Association of Project Managers.
What we’re looking for
Along with the standard qualifications we look for – five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above, including Maths, English and Science, and two A Levels (or equivalent) in any subject – you’ll need a rather particular set of personal qualities to be successful on our Project Management programme.
A good head for figures, a sharp eye for detail, excellent analytical skills and a highly organised approach are all essential. But however good you are with numbers, you’ll need to be even better with people. A natural communicator, warm and engaging, you’ll need to work well as part of team. From a practical standpoint, you’ll also need to know your way around the current Microsoft Office software.
