The Apprentice - HRBP Team will be working towards gaining experience in the following areas whilst gaining a wider understanding of the role of the HR Business Partnering Team:
  • With direction from the Assistant HRBP, co-ordinate the recruitment and selection processes for all staff groups, obtaining the correct recruitment authority, proofing of job descriptions; advising and supporting managers on effective strategies for advertising. Flagging specific training needs amongst line managers and interview panel members
  • Support the Assistant HRBP in working with managers within Schools and/or Professional Service Departments to resolve day to day enquiries, including payroll queries, escalating as appropriate and drafting correspondence when required
  • With direction from the HRBP (or Assistant) advise managers and staff in interpreting College policies and procedures. Assisting in arranging formal meetings and preparing paperwork and bundles for hearings, appeals and taking notes when requested. To undertake some casework supported by the HRBP
  • Support the Assistant HRBP in administrating the College promotion and reward review panels (excluding Remuneration Committee)
  • To use the College's HR Information Systems to access relevant staff information and to produce reports for Schools and/or Professional Service Departments. This will include workforce planning, sickness/absence and fixed term contracts
  • In conjunction with the Head of Operations and the Operations Team to fully understand the Business Wold HR system and how HR transactional work is completed
  • Assisting with College-wide change projects and initiatives, including supporting Equality and Diversity initiatives. Supporting the HRBPs in delivering organisational change and other change management projects within Schools and/or Professional Service Departments
  • Take on or support work as delegated by the Head of HR Business Partnering
  • The above list of duties is not exhaustive and is subject to change. The post holder may be required to undertake other duties within the scope and grading of this post


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Excellent IT skills with experience of using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience in using a computerised database to enter, sort, retrieve information and produce reports
  • Understanding of data protection (GDPR) and payroll regulations
  • A basic understanding of HR practices and procedures and the purpose of an HR department within a business


Personal qualities

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to deal sensitively and diplomatically with a wide range of employees
  • Proven organisational/ time management skills and the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands and deadlines effectively
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills enabling the post holder to develop positive working relationships across the College
  • Consistently high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively and supportively to ensure service delivery


Desired qualifications

  • Five GCSEs grade C/Level 5 or above(or equivalent)which must include English and maths or Level 2 Business Apprenticeship
  • Level 3 qualification in Business Administration or similar


Future prospects

May be offered a permanent role after apprenticeship.
