An apprentice to support the activities involved in bringing designs into manufacture. This role will be pivotal to the planning and delivery of engineered products to our customers. The focus is on developing the skills required to produce output from our manufacturing facility on time, on cost and to the right quality.

What you'll be doing

Through our degree apprenticeship you'll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand manufacturing from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the best names in the industry.

In our UK facility in Haydock (Merseyside), you will have a diverse and exciting role working towards responsibility in:

  • Test and Assembly
  • Design for Manufacture
  • Manufacturing
  • Quality

As an apprentice you will be working towards a manufacturing systems engineering degree part-time for the duration of a 5 year programme where you will be given one day per week in which to complete your studies with a Liverpool John Moores University. For the other 4 days you will be working, applying your learning and gaining a breadth of experience across the business.

Wages will be reviewed on an annual basis. There is a discretionary bonus scheme depending on company, team and employee performance.

Requirements and prospects Desired skills
  • Literate and numerate with a solid understanding of the laws of physics
  • Experience working with tools and machinery
Personal qualities
  • Must be trustworthy, keen to learn and have confidence to ask questions and give/receive feedback
  • Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the programme
  • Full clean UK driving licence desirable but not essential
Qualifications required

Minimum points required from qualifications = 112.

A minimum of 64 UCAS points at A2 Level from Mathematics and one of the following: Physics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Electronics or Higher Education Diploma in a relevant subject.

Prior to starting the programme applicants must have obtained grade 4 or grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics GCSE or an approved alternative qualification below: • Key Skills Level 2 in English/ Maths • NVQ Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English Writing and or Reading • Skills for Life Level 2 in Numeracy/English • Higher Diploma in Maths/ English • Functional skills level 2 in Maths/ English • Northern Ireland Essential Skills Level 2 in Communication or Application of Number • Wales Essential Skills Level 2 in Communication or Application of Number Prior to starting the programme

Future prospects After graduation, you will have a in depth of the knowledge and understanding of manufacturing systems engineering, management, and teamwork to enable you to rapidly assume technical leadership and management roles within the business.

Things to consider Support in gaining Chartered Engineer status. Working alongside team-members on activities within Customer Service and Supply-Chain functions. You will gain work real-world experience in: root-cause analysis for zero-defects, integrated supply-chain optimisation, vibration analysis, isolator specification, CAD design, prototyping, composite material manufacture and profiling.
