Buildings take on many forms from newly built facilities to the refurbishment of historic premises for every sector including healthcare (hospitals), education (schools, colleges, universities), workplace (offices), retail (shopping outlets) and leisure (hotels) both in the UK and internationally.

Typical daily job duties will include:
  • Using digital software to assist design engineers in producing and updating mechanical and electrical design drawings
  • Engagingwith the latest digital engineering and BIM tools
  • Developing a knowledge of the smart technologies and innovations which are shaping the buildings of the future

During your apprenticeship at BDP no two days will ever be the sameas you study spending one day a week at The Manchester College and supported learning at work, you'll study towards a Level 4 in Construction andBuilding Services Management.

Not only will you learn in the classroom, you'll also enjoy being part of our interdisciplinary team as you get involved with all kinds of projects and learn something new every day.

Our environmental design group house building services, mechanical, electrical, public health and infrastructure engineers, specialist lighting designers, acoustic and sustainability consultants, BREEAM assessors and building physicists.

Subject to your progress, there may be an opportunity to go on to further study to enable you to be qualified to degree level and achieve either Incorporated or Chartered Engineering (IEng or CEng) status.

Desired skills

You will:
  • Be competent in the use of IT with good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Be able to communicate in written English to a good standard
  • Have excellent communication skills and be able to work well in a team
  • Be able to manage your own time and have a simple understanding of prioritisation
  • Be able to produce neat and accurate work

You will:
  • Be reliable, punctual and have a positive attitude to learning and your own development
  • Be creative and practical
  • Be able to think in a methodical way
  • Have a general interest in the built environment and a career in the construction industry


Desired qualifications

Qualifications Required:
  • A-Levels, or equivalent,including Maths, Science and IT
