The success of Arla Foods relies significantly on its skilled work force and the business invest a lot in people. Arla is now looking to recruit Apprentices for the award-winning EDEN scheme in Advanced Dairy Technology apprenticeship. This Dairy technology programme is unique and ground-breaking initiative by the dairy industry aimed at developing future technologists and technician to run our highly technological advanced dairy processing plants.

You will need to take the lead in driving your own development and show energy, drive and passion as you work towards your Foundation Degree in Dairy Technology, advanced apprenticeship certificate and a rewarding career with Arla Foods. Applications are now open for the September 2019 intake of our Dairy Technology programme with vacancies across our UK sites, including Lockerbie (Dumfries and Galloway), Taw Valley (North Devon), Trevarrian (Cornwall), Westbury (Wiltshire), Settle (North Yorkshire), Oakthorpe (North London), Aylesbury and Stourton (Leeds).

On this 3 year structured programme you will spend residential periods each year gaining technical know-how at a purpose-built, multi-million training dairy at Reaseheath College in Cheshire, the specialist training academy for our industry. When you're not at college, you'll be based at an Arla site putting your learning into practice.

In this role the key responsibilities will include:
  • Develop, produce and control the production of raw materials into finished products
  • Operate Manufacturing machinery and manage process, filling/packing and cleaning plant operations in accordance to laid down procedures
  • Use all equipment or substances in accordance with training or instruction
  • Prompt fault finding and timely corrective action or escalation
  • Strive to achieve the highest quality product, highlighting any concerns
  • Ensure the products and volumes are in accordance with specifications and targets by monitoring and adjusting process and equipment settings
  • Monitor waste levels
  • Be involved in continuous improvement, project management, tests and trial activities
  • Interpret and process data to make adjustments to process parameters in order to achieve product specifications

You will need to impress us with your desire to learn and your ability to take the lead and make your career ambitions for the future a reality. You will also need 3 GCSEs or equivalent, Level 6 (Grade B) in maths, Level 5 (Grade C) in Science and Level 5 (Grade C) in English or the equivalent and an interest in the dairy industry. Candidates must be prepared to live away from home during blocks of learning at college.

This is an excellent opportunity to earn whilst you learn the ropes of one of the fastest-paced industry's there is. But make no mistake, this is no easy option and our limited places will be filled by people who are ready to take a pro-active approach towards their own growth and personal and professional development.

Desired qualifications

Future prospects

  • Great future career opportunities and progression within Arla. The natural route upon completion of the programme would be to step into an full time role in Production/Process on one of our sites. In terms of long term progression, some of our previous Eden graduates are now senior managers on site
