Housing Apprentice (Level 2/Intermediate)
An opportunity has arisen at Dartford Borough Council. it is an exciting time within private sector housing as there have been many legal changes to help protect people who rent their homes from private landlords. The ideal candidate will help the Team make a real difference and improve resident’s living conditions.
The Borough of Dartford comprises the town of Dartford and eight surrounding parishes: Stone, Bean, Darenth, Longfield and New Barn, Southfleet, Sutton-at-Hone and Hawley, Swanscombe and Greenhithe and Wilmington. The population of the Borough is approximately 107,500 residents comprising of approximately 45,270 households – 87% of these are in the private sector.
Located on the border of Kent, London and Essex, Dartford is one of the most exciting and dynamic regions in the country.
Dartford is at the heart of one of the Government’s key growth zones within the Thames Gateway and will see around 20,000 new homes and up to 50,000 new jobs created in the borough over the next 25 years – a substantial addition to the existing residents in the Borough.
Description of Vacancy
An exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience within a Local Authority Housing department. One position available within the busy Housing Solutions & Private Sector Team, offering general admin support to the Private Sector Housing Officers who work to improve housing conditions within the private sector.
To provide administrative support to the Private Sector Housing Section which deals with standards of private rented accommodation including shared accommodation, empty properties, housing and adaptation grants and energy efficiency promotion:
General housekeeping including filing, scanning and photocopying
Keeping accurate records on database
Sending standard communications e.g. letter and emails
Dealing with telephone and email enquiries
37 hours per week
Monday to Thursday 8.45am - 17.15pm
Friday 8.45am - 16.45pm
Unpaid 1 hour lunch break
Adequate I.T skills
Able to work in a Team
Ability to prioritise workload
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Confident in communication
Willingness to learn
5 GCSE's Grade C (4) and above that must include maths and English or equivalent.
On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Framework – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.
Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.

Therefore, you must have the means to get to your place of work on a daily basis whilst waiting for your first wages to be paid.
