About the scheme

An exciting opportunity introduced in 2015 was the Aerospace Degree Apprenticeships for our Engineering function. The Scheme provides a combination of tailored industrial placements within our MAI businesses, with the opportunity to study for a Foundation Degree on a part time basis at Blackpool and the Fylde College, and the potential to continue onto an Honours Degree programme, dependant on individual performance and business needs.

Upon completion of your apprenticeship you can expect to be employed in roles such as Flight Systems Engineer, Mission Systems Engineer, Systems Integration Engineer, Support Engineer and Airframe Specialist.

Working towards both practical and academic targets, this competency based scheme takes up to 5 years to complete building on your technical ability, knowledge and transferrable skills such as communication, team work, problem solving and critical-thinking.

As an Engineering Degree Apprentice you will become highly trained and closely mentored within a particular discipline. This ensures that we deliver the right engineers to the right discipline with exactly the right match of skills and knowledge to work within our technical environment.

From day one you will be earning a competitive salary with increases related to performance against objectives and behaviours.

You will be joining our team of highly skilled and dedicated employees based primarily at our Warton or Samlesbury sites in Lancashire. Our Support & Customer Training discipline requires engineers to work at our customers’ sites so you could find yourself working at sites both in the UK and worldwide.

What you will need

To apply for the MAI Engineering Degree Apprenticeship you will require:

  • Academic qualifications 240 UCAS points or above at A Level standard, with at least two in STEM based subjects such as Physics, ICT, Computing, Mathematics, Electronics. Note: UCAS points awarded for AS Levels are not counted.

And

  • Five GCSE’s at Grade A-C including Mathematics, English Language and Double Science or equivalent qualification.

In addition you must be able to demonstrate a level of hands-on practical aptitude and provide evidence of good team working and communication skills. Applicants must be passionate and enthusiastic about engineering. Applicants will also be expected to be medically fit for the role, be eligible to work in the UK and be able to successfully achieve security clearance. As a company committed to talent, we welcome applications from a diverse range of people, from all backgrounds and with many different skills, experience and perspectives.

Your Development

We encourage and support you to realise your potential. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from colleagues who are experts in their field, and gain insights that can only come from real world experience.

At the end of the scheme you will have had a good mix of academic and work-based learning experiences to ensure you develop the skills that will support you and the business in the future.

Applications are open for 2017 starts between November 2016 and February 2017.
