Job Description:

Depending on the division you sit within the role may involve:


  • Working as part of a small team assigned to assess firms' financial resilience, comparing approaches and drawing conclusions relevant to the wider sector
  • Playing a role in developing responses to questions relating to financial resilience from stakeholders
  • Assisting with the project management of the department’s reviews
  • Providing general support across the department’s activities



Within other divisions the role may involve:


  • Proactively identifying, gathering and analysing evidence using FSMA and wider law enforcement powers
  • Assisting with case strategy
  • Supporting the interviewing of individuals related to investigations
  • Gathering and disseminating intelligence and lessons learned as well as helping with the management of internal and external stakeholders
  • Analysis of financial records and company records
  • Using strong judgement and decision-making skills
  • Providing clear, practical contributions on how to progress challenging cases

Training Provided:

As an Accounting Apprentice with BPP, you will complete the Accountancy Taxation Professional Apprenticeship at Level 7. Within the apprenticeship you will undertake the ACCA professional qualification.

The apprenticeship will be completed at a BPP centre or via the Online Classroom platform, in addition to at the workplace.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 A Levels at grade C - including one in numerical subject e.g. Maths, Economics, Finance.

Personal Qualities & Skills:


  • Good analytical skills, and an ability to analyse various forms and types of documents and materials
  • A strong team player with the ability to be flexible and pragmatic.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, positively embracing new approaches.
  • Strong communication skills in order to present findings clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise own judgement and defend those judgements where necessary and appropriate.


  • Some knowledge of the financial sector (for example the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA)
  • Understanding of investigations would be helpful although experience of applying a combination of rules and judgement to decide applications is more helpful.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages

Future Prospects

Apprentices who successfully complete their professional qualification and apprenticeship programme will be considered for a permanent role within the FCA.
