Are you a keen problem solver with a passion for numbers? Would you like to study, learn and work towards a professional qualification? Join us on our Quantity Surveyor Apprentice Scheme and you can have it all!

Be the person we come to for resolutions

Quantity Surveyors are the problem solvers of Virgin Media. Each day, they hunt down problems within the business and resolve them, whether that’s saving money through initiatives, dealing with contractors or working on important reports. They work in the Commercial team and communicate and work alongside all areas of the business to reduce costs and enhance value of projects.

Build skills for the future

On this apprenticeship, you’ll own responsibilities that make a real difference to the Virgin Media business. You will need to communicate with the Commercial team, and teams across our business, to complete your tasks. This could include:

Reviewing cost estimates and plans to ensure that projects are not being under/over paid

Agreeing allowance of the Compensation Events with our Build Partners

Managing budget and spend profiles to identify ways to make the most out of our money

Updating schedule cost data sets to ensure they’re consistent, accurate and aligned

Analysing the impact on costs of Change Requests

What we look for

Day-to-day, this role is extremely number focused, so you’ll have to be comfortable working with high value numbers with lots of impact on the overall business. As a Quantity Surveyor working with the wider business, you need to be personable and happy to put yourself out there as building a long-standing network is very important. Individuals will need a full UK driving licence to complete this role efficiently. Flexible working is available, but you will be expected to attend the office regularly in order to learn and collaborate with the team. Other skills we’re looking for include:

Understanding of complex written documents

Methodical thinking

Data analysis

We’re 100% committed to having a workforce that represents every part of our society, so we’re keen to hear from candidates of all backgrounds and circumstances. The only barrier to applying would be if you didn’t have the right to work in the UK and were unable to obtain it without our support.

What’s in it for you

During your time on the scheme, you’ll build skills and experience that you’ll be able to carry with you through your career lifetime. You’ll work towards a Quantity Surveying Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship, which is secured with a final assessment, as well as a Level 4 Constructions & Built Environment BTEC. To make sure you can reach the locations you may be required to work in this apprenticeship you'll receive a vehicle allowance of up to £5,500 per year as well as our other amazing benefits

What is involved with studying for an apprenticeship?

Your apprenticeship is made up of learning on the job, but also gaining the academic skills to put into practice in your day-to-day job.  As a result, you'll complete the apprenticeship as part of a structured learning programme alongside working in the role. The learning programme is made up of a suite of modules and milestones and you’ll be required to evidence your work against these modules via tasks and assignments. For some apprenticeships, you may also undertake additional technical qualifications, which include studying for, and taking an exam. Once you have completed your modules and milestones, you’ll then move to your End Point Assessment (EPA) which is typically made up of an interview and a project. Once you pass this stage, you will receive your apprenticeship qualification with us.

Our business might have first burst into life in 2007, but our history is the history of phone, TV and internet in the UK. Why? Simple. Because we’re its future. Our culture is led by ideas and pioneers, challenge and creativity, and diversity and opportunity – it’s about always looking forward and the truth is we’re just getting warmed up.

Our network may be the biggest in the UK and Europe, unrivalled for its power and speed. But we’re not resting. We’re investing. In the network and our people. We plan to invest an additional £40 million over the next three years to refurbish key sites and acquire new alternative sites for our people.

Right now, our combination of voice, broadband and video products, combined with TiVo, sets the standard in homes across the nation. The future is all about going beyond the home, and beyond the norm. We’re going to explode the possibilities – giving people the communication, entertainment and connectivity they want, whenever and wherever they want it.

Virgin Media is building connections that really matter.  If it matter to our clients, then it really matters to us.

We’ve got a very different way of looking at the world, and it shows in what we're like as a place to work. It’s not a nine-to-five, clock in and tune out sort of place. And there’s no corporate mask to put on at the door – you can just be yourself. So, you'll be joining a bunch of people who are naturally adventurous, inventive and never stop questioning to make sure we aren’t missing a trick.

As part of our varied apprenticeship schemes, we’re committed to helping talented people move onwards and upwards through our business. All of our schemes are designed to give you the knowledge, skills, experience and exposure you need to progress and develop a rewarding Virgin Media career.

When you’re part of the Virgin Media family you can trust us to do the right thing by you. So we go all-out to be a great place to work – and we offer some pretty impressive benefits too. Join us, and in return, you’ll get brilliant training and loads of mentoring to help you blaze a trail through our business. We promise you’ll have more than a little fun along the way!
