About the role
Cost Engineering requires the combination of engineering practice, interpretation, judgement and experience in order to predict the potential cost, timing and preceding dependencies of a product or service. Working closely with our colleagues responsible for the drafting of Commercial Contracts, Cost Engineering supports the major Programmes through decentralised Teams.
We also support internal and external stakeholders involved with the estimation or communication of cost and pricing information to ensure adherence to mandated Commercial Governance processes.
About the scheme
The scheme is designed to provide a broad knowledge of Cost Engineering through three to twelve month placements, over a 3 year period, across many different Cost Engineering related areas of the business.
The Cost Engineering scheme will allow Higher Apprentices the opportunity to work on real, live projects, typical tasks will include pricing major MoD, non-competitive Submarine platform contracts, pricing competitive bid submissions for activities separate to the Submarine programmes, pricing customer change requests, indemnity and delay claims and costing internal
What you’ll need
To apply for the Cost Engineering HA Trainee Scheme, you’ll require a minimum of three A-levels (or equivalent) at grade A* - C including mathematics and a science related subject, excluding general studies.
Applicants will be expected to be medically fit as deemed necessary to perform the role, be eligible to work in the UK and be able to successfully achieve security clearance. The focus of the Cost Engineering HA Scheme is on the development of the individual. You will be fully funded by the company to study part time to achieve a relevant Level 4 qualification.
You’ll also have the opportunity to learn from colleagues who are experts in their field, and gain insights that can only come from experience in the workplace. You will also be expected to take part in ‘Stretch Assignments’ these are opportunities to be involved in a variety of charitable and promotional projects to develop additional skills to those that can be learnt through college\placements.

The selection process is made up of five stages:
