About the role
From torpedoes to nuclear submarine reactors - we make some truly complex and safety-critical products. Product Safety engineers work at the heart of these, at all stages of the product lifecycle. From identifying and analysing hazards to developing robust controls and safety procedures, you will play a pivotal role in the product development.
About the scheme
Through-out the 5 year Product Safety scheme you will be a key figure through the entire project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include; determining initial requirements, supporting functional prototypes, developing production standard solutions, and supporting testing of the finished product. It will be down to you to ensure these products are safe and fit for purpose. As well as individual products, you will help us to develop the comprehensive safety management systems for entire platforms.
You'll be joining Maritime - Submarines — the part of BAE Systems that has been tasked with turning Britain's future defence ambitions into reality. We're the people who are building the next generation of submarines for the Royal Navy.
What you’ll need
To apply for Product Safety Higher Apprenticeship Scheme, you’ll require a minimum of 3 A-levels grade A*-C (or equivalent), including maths and science related subjects (excluding General Studies).
All applicants will be expected to be medically fit as deemed necessary to perform the role, be eligible to work in the UK and be able to successfully achieve security clearance. The focus of the Product Safety Higher Apprenticeship Scheme is on the development of the individual. You will be fully funded by the company to achieve a relevant level 4 qualification, followed by a full honours degree.
You’ll also have the opportunity to learn from colleagues who are experts in their field, and gain insights that can only come from experience in the workplace. You will also be expected to take part in ‘Stretch Assignments’ these are opportunities to be involved in a variety of charitable and promotional projects to develop additional skills to those that can be learnt through college\placements.
