Digital and Technology Higher Apprenticeship - 2017 start
The cross-sector demand for skills in digital and technology have never been greater and the Fast Track apprenticeship offers an excellent opportunity to earn a good salary while you learn these valuable skills.
As government increasingly embraces new digital methods and platforms in order to transform the services it provides to the public, there has never been a more exciting time to get involved in technology within the Civil Service. The skills you’ll learn on the scheme will set you up for a rewarding career either in or outside the Civil Service.
What you’ll do
As a digital and technology apprentice you could undertake a number of roles including:
- support technician
- service management apprentice
- network support officer
- QA test automator
- platform architect
- support analyst
- project support

In 2016, the digital and technology apprenticeship scheme will be running in the following locations:
- Leeds / Sheffield
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for apprentices who:
- have a genuine interest in and passion for technology
- have enthusiasm and a willingness to try out new things, explore and innovate
- are able to combine technical ability with being a good communicator
In addition to 5 GCSEs, grades A* to C and including English language and maths (or equivalent), you must have 2 A levels, grades A* to C, in STEM subjects. (Or you expect to have these qualifications by 31 August 2016.)
You’ll also need to check you meet the general requirements of eligibility, such as age, nationality and residency.
After the apprenticeship
Completing the scheme will open up a wide variety of routes and opportunities for you within digital technology and provide you with the building blocks for a successful career either in or outside the Civil Service.
Once you’ve successfully completed your apprenticeship, you’ll be eligible to apply without a degree for the Fast Stream. This is the Civil Service’s prestigious graduate development programme which prepares participants for leadership roles within the organisation.
