Goldwyn School is a KCC Foundation Special School for children and young people with an EHCP for SEMH needs from age 11 to 18. Students who are admitted to the school have complex and wide ranging difficulties and come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds and a wide geographical area.

Description of vacancy

Goldwyn School wish to appoint a Receptionist/Clerical Assistant Apprentice. The successful candidate will be based at Goldwyn School, Folkestone.

This role is ideal for someone who is keen to develop as a receptionist within a School setting. We are seeking someone with enthusiasm and drive, the ability to work alongside and learn from colleagues, and a desire to release their potential within a structured learning and working environment. We offer a nurturing approach to learning with regular supervision so that you can be the best that you can be.

  • Receive all visitors to the school including staff, students and parents extending a warm welcome
  • Assisting with visitors ensuring they are signed and offering refreshments as appropriate
  • Process incoming and outgoing telephone calls, taking messages and answering queries as appropriate
  • Process incoming and outgoing post including receiving deliveries and facilitating collections from the office
  • Assist in the ordering of stationery, office furniture and equipment
  • Undertake inputting and extracting of data on the computer systems, pro-actively obtaining information to ensure up to date and accurate recording
  • Maintain filing systems and undertake photocopying, laminating, booklet making and other relevant duties under the guidance of the Administrative Officer
  • Take responsibility for maintaining the waiting area including ensuring information is up to date
  • Learn to contribute to the maintenance of office equipment
  • To assist with other clerical tasks as and when requested

Wage

£4.81 per hour minimum although negotiable depending on experience

Hours

37 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks per year)

Monday to Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm (includes half hour unpaid lunch break)

Time will be allocated during these working hours to complete learning from 3.00pm-4.30pm Monday to Friday

20% paid time during working hours is given to complete training, referred to as “Off the Job Training”

Skills Required

  • Confident telephone manner
  • Potential to develop excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent all round IT skills (MS Word, MS Excel, Internet, Intranet, databases)
  • Positive attitude – polite and willing
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Basic knowledge of Health & Safety in an office environment
  • Able to prioritise work effectively, be organised and have an ability to multi-task
  • Good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively by phone
  • The ability to work effectively with others as a competent team member.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail

Qualifications Required 

  • 3 GCSE’s (or equivalent) grades 4+/ A-C in any subject, plus GCSE English and Maths (or equivalents) one at grade D or above and the other A-C
  • Willingness to work towards an NVQ Level 3 qualification
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel and Outlook)

Training Provided

On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Business Administration Apprenticeship Framework – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards
