Apprentice Library & Learning Assistant

Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle , 37hours

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player to contribute to the provision of high quality library and knowledge services to health care staff and students by assisting in the delivery of interlibrary-loans, document supply, enquiry and circulation services.Based in our library at Cumberland Infirmary, the Apprentice Library Assistant will develop through education, training, and practice to gain the fundamental skills, knowledge, and competencies to perform their duties at a proficient level in the Library, with the expectation of gaining a Library Level 3 Apprenticeship and/or ACLIP certification through CILIP while in post.

Main duties of the job

Interested in a career in Libraries, the Apprentice Library Assistant will enjoy working with people and be a great communicator, as they will be helping users both in-person and online. They will have excellent IT skills, and will be using a range of websites, databases, and creating documents.

NHS libraries provide a challenging but supportive environment and the post holder will have access to an excellent CPD programme and join a strong library network across England.

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• A good standard of education, including GCSE Maths and English A-C or equivalent
• Must not have qualifications in area of which the Apprenticeship aligns

Experience

Essential

• Provision of customer services
• Experience of using social media
• Experience of working with computers for work

Desirable

• Experience in an NHS, academic or public library or archives
• Experience of searching databases

Knowledge

Essential

• A working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer or other browsers
