What will the apprentice be doing?

At Signify UK&I, we utilise brands including Philips, Interact, ColorKinetics, Modular Lighting and Cooper Lighting Solutions, to offer luminaires and lighting controls to our Professional customers. These brands offer solutions for various applications including offices, industrial buildings, retail and hospitality venues, sports arenas, etc. However, in some instances, a customised approach is required to suit the particular task, environment and/or customer. This is where the UK&I Customisation team becomes involved.

As a Lighting Customisation Apprentice, you'll be responsible for assisting the UK&I Customisation team to create luminaires that are 'engineered to order'. Having learned our standard luminaire portfolio and understood the customer's specific requirements, you will identify and propose viable solutions that may include modifications to standard luminaires or creating custom luminaires.

You'll be part of a technical team and have exposure to various stakeholders, such as customers, suppliers and colleagues including sales managers, lighting designers and product managers. As part of your apprenticeship, you will spend dedicated time with all these teams to gather a holistic view of the company's strategy and processes. Therefore, the role will mix office work with site visits and customer meetings.

During your 3 year apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to:

- Work closely with the sales teams to understand customer requirements and design brief.
- Define the technical and commercial risks and benefits as part of a business case.
- Brainstorm ideas and discuss their feasibility with technical experts inc other customisation specialists and product managers.
- Liaise with the supply chain (including factories and local vendors) to manage lead-times and pricing.
- Support other customisation specialists with gatekeeping, pacesetting and updating project tracker database

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

One of our chosen providers is University of Chichester. As part of the programme our apprentices are required to spend 1 day at University (virtually or within a class room setting). We recommend the Electrical/Electronic Technical Support Engineer Degree Apprenticeship course, but we welcome other suggestions as well.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

After successful completion of your 3 year apprenticeship you will be offered a permanent role at Signify having successfully demonstrated the appropriate skills and behaviour for effective performance. There are also opportunities to continue learning to gain further external qualifications in addition to the many learning opportunities within Signify.
