About the apprenticeship

Duties

You will work with the friendly team that deliver the Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly Workforce Development Service.We are proud of what we do and helping people learn and develop is our speciality. You will be working with technology and systems so that you can help people access learning that is right for them.
• Help us deliver the day-to-day operation of a busy service
• Learn about what the Workforce Development Service does, who for and why
• Learn about how and where we fit into Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly County Borough Councils, and even wider
• Learn how we do things and be part of a team that works in an agile way
• Be supported to do parts of our work so that you feel good about contributing
• You will learn how it feels to combine working from home with working from an office
• Use technology, we will provide you with the tools you need
• Use a range of software including Microsoft Office 365 and learn other software that helps us deliver for our customers
• Help us use social media to market and promote events
• Support others in the team on different projects
• Attend training events and have opportunities to help you gain the evidence you need to achieve your qualification
• Meet and talk to our customers
• Help us improve by sharing your ideas about how we could do things differently
• Learn about all the rules and policies that are important when you are employed like equality, diversity, data protection, confidentiality, and health and safety

Additional information

37 Hours per week
The base is in Foxes Lane near Blackwood but you will be working from home with occasional visits to the office
Apprenticeship Duration - 18 months to 3 years

Skills

You will fit right in if you are enthusiastic and happy to learn and try new things. We have a customer comes first and digital focus so if those are important to you this could be the opportunity you have been looking for.
Admin experience preferred but not essential
Excellent keyboard skills
Computer literate in Microsoft Office
Ability to communicate effectively
Demonstrate good interpersonal skills
Ability to work within a confidential department
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn human resource information systems (HRIS) and similar computer applications.

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
