Are you looking to start a career within the leisure industry? Becoming a Recreation Assistant / Lifeguard is a great first step!
As a Recreation Assistant / Lifeguard you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all swimmers. It's not just sitting around in a chair all day, you will have to be alert, and ready to act fast should any incidents arise, using your skills to save the day! When you aren't on poolside you will assist with a wide range of activities such as setting up sports equipment, cleaning, assisting customers with their needs, ensuring that you maintain a safe environment at all times.
Ideally you will already hold a current RLSS NPLQ qualification, but if you show us that you are the right candidate and keen to learn we will put you through your training*. We'll also ensure that you receive a proper induction and regular training so you can be the best you can be. First Aid at Work certificate, Pool Plant Operators qualification is desirable but not essential. Training to achieve these qualifications will be provided.
The position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

*NPLQ Requirements - You must be 16 or over to take the final assessment. You must be able to dive into deep water, swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds, swim 100 metres continuously in deep water, tread water for 30 seconds, surface dive to the floor of the pool and climb out unaided without a ladder or steps.
What your apprenticeship includes:
- A mixture of face to face and virtual catch ups with your learning coach every 4 - 6 weeks
- A mixture of on and off the job training, including workshops and webinars
- Feedback sessions to discuss progress
- Obtain Functional Skills in English and Maths (if you don't already have GCSE)
At Brackley Leisure Centre you will be studying towards your Leisure Team Member Apprenticeship Level 2 Standard
