What will the apprentice be doing?

We are looking for a candidate who is interested in a long-term career in financial services. The entry stage is aimed at graduates, but we welcome all applicants who have an interest in starting a structured career path in the industry.
  • The specific learning program and progression levels are detailed in the table overleaf.
  • Irrespective of whether you have a degree relevant to the industry, you will initially join us as a Apprentice Client Administrator. This is to ensure that you have a good understanding of how Herbert Scott operates from the ground upwards. Once mastered, you will then progress either directly to a Level 4 Paraplanner Apprenticeship (if you have a relevant degree), or firstly to a Level 3 Financial Services Administration Apprenticeship followed by a Level 4 Paraplanner Apprenticeship. Ultimately, the aim is for you to then join us as an employed, Apprentice Paraplanner.
  • The apprenticeships combine professional exams and on the job learning, to develop your technical and practical skills.
  • As a Apprentice Client Administrator, you will initially be learning the skills required in administration such as managing client data and supporting the Operations Department to deliver a professional and friendly client service.
  • As you become more proficient in the administrative tasks, you will start to work more closely with our existing team of paraplanners. You will also have more client interaction by attending client meetings and working with our highly qualified Financial Planners to deliver technically accurate and well-written advice letters and reports.
  • If you would like to progress to become a Financial Planner, we will aim to support you on this journey. All training and exam support will be provided by our team.
  • Progression is dependent on the candidate's abilities, so it may be possible to complete stages quicker than outlined.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
  • Fully and part funded learning and development programme that includes the Certificate in Financial Services
  • Develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours of successful Paraplanners
  • Free CII membership for non-members through the CII Aspire Apprenticeship Programme for those who have not been a paid member before
  • Includes study book and exam entry for each CII exam
  • The Certificate in Financial Services includes:
  • R01 Financial Services, Regulation and Ethics
  • CF1 can be delivered instead of R01, depending on circumstances
  • R02 Investment Principles and Risk
  • R03 Personal Taxation• J09 Paraplanning

  • Fortnightly workshops for each R0 exam
  • All workshops recorded and available on-demand
  • Interactive chat, forums and class note books for real time support and assistance from experienced financial services professionals
  • Additional resources through RM Advance
  • Regular tutorials and assessments from an experienced financial services professional

  • Client Administrator - Level 3 Financial Services Administrator Apprenticeship & on the job - R01 - 6 months
  • Trainee Paraplanner - Level 4 Paraplanner Apprenticeship & on the job - R02, R03 & J09 - 12/24 months
  • Paraplanner - On the job - R04, R05, R06 - 12 months
  • Trainee Adviser - On the job - Study towards Chartered - ongoing
