Early Careers Apprentice

Reports To: Early Careers Advisor
Department: People Team
Location: London HQ with travel to other C4 locations when required

THE C4 APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME

Our Apprenticeships are full-time, with four days per week spent working in a C4 department and one day per week completing the formal learning parts of the Apprenticeship. Our Apprentices have external tutors who deliver workshops and seminars to them and offer support throughout the apprenticeship.  It is essential for Apprentices to be able to balance their work and learning time and commit to delivering what is required for the formal learning elements in order to successfully achieve the qualifications on completion.

The formal training provided will consist of workshops, tutorials, webinars, coaching and in some cases residential boot camps. The training is dependent on the qualification your apprenticeship offers and will be explained in detail by the training provider before you officially begin the course. You can read more about the qualification being offered for this apprenticeship below.

Am I eligible to apply?
You must be 18 years old or over at the time the scheme starts to apply. There is no upper age limit.
You cannot already have a similar qualification at the same or higher level than what is being offered on this apprenticeship. For example, you are not eligible to apply for this role if you have a Recruitment related qualification.

ABOUT CHANNEL 4

Channel 4 is free-to-air and freely available to all of the UK. We have the UK’s biggest free streaming service, All4, plus a network of 12 television channels. Since Channel 4 was created in 1982, it has been at the centre of national conversations and a catalyst for the creation of a world-beating production sector in the UK.

Our purpose is to create change through entertainment. We do this by representing unheard voices, challenging with purpose and reinventing entertainment.

Our unique model – commercially-funded but publicly-owned – means that we’re able to offer independent and distinctive, universal content reflecting the interests of different communities across the UK.

As a publisher-broadcaster, Channel 4 commissions UK content from the independent production sector and currently works with around 300 creative companies across the UK every year.

WHAT WE DO

As part of C4’s ‘4All the UK’ strategy, in October 2019 we opened a new national HQ in Leeds and a Creative Hub in both Bristol and Glasgow. This will ensure that we serve the whole of the UK and is the biggest change to the organisation’s structure in its history. It will support a significant increase in the organisation’s Nations & Regions spend on creative content – from 35% to 50% of main channel UK commissions by 2023.

A key part of this strategy is to attract and develop talent across the UK. 4Skills is our new training and development initiative that brings together all of our existing training schemes across C4. This on-going programme is focussed on finding and nurturing talent from the Nations and Regions with the aim of attracting people into broadcasting and production from diverse backgrounds. 4Skills will address skills gaps and also play a key role in progressing the careers of those already in the industry.

This role sits within the People Team and will support on a variety of current schemes and new initiatives that support our ‘4Skills’ vision, working closely with our 4Skills colleagues based in the National HQ in Leeds.

The wider People Team supports the 3 business areas within the channel (Creative, Commercial, Operations) and the Early Careers Advisor will support with each of these areas, across all C4 locations, by delivering Apprenticeship and early career programmes that help people start their careers in the media industry.

This apprenticeship would suit someone who is interested in working on apprenticeships, early career programmes, youth outreach events or working with schools, but most importantly you’ll need to be passionate about helping people from diverse backgrounds find career opportunities.
