What will the apprentice be doing?
  • Designing Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Domestic Water Services, Natural Gas and Above Ground Drainage under the supervision of a competent engineer.
  • Assisting engineers, senior engineers, managers, and directors and site teams with project delivery.
  • Completing an Autodesk Revit software course to enable mechanical services to be drawn in the 3D environment.
  • Completing a MagiCAD Software course to enable mechanical services calculations to be completed within the Autodesk Revit 3D environment.
  • Produce drawings for site installation teams.
  • Use email for corresponding with clients, suppliers, sub-contractors, and design team members.
  • Producing technical submissions and reports using Microsoft Word.
  • Producing schedules and calculation sheets using Microsoft Excel.
  • Using Microsoft Teams for external meetings as and when required.
  • Committing to continued professional development by attending in house and online (CPD's)
  • Attending construction sites around the country that we are working on and liaising with site teams and design team members.
  • Issuing completed drawings to various parties involved in the project.
  • Attending meetings both in house and externally, with suppliers, manufacturers, and construction design team members.
  • Undertaking a Health and Safety course and obtaining a Construction Skills Card Service (CSCS card)
  • Enrolling within CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineer) at student grade.
  • 20% of normal working hours (1 day a week) day release for training and study at college.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will achieve a BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Building Services Engineering qualification. Functional skills and NVQ Level 3 Diploma Building Services Engineering for technicians. Upon successful completion you will be registered as Engineering Technician with The Engineering Council and will be able to use the title EngTech after your name. Likewise, you will also progress to Licentiate grade within CIBSE and will be able to use the title LCIBSE after your name.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Employment within the organisation may be possible upon successful completion of the apprenticeship as a Mechanical Design Engineer. With experience progression to senior, principal engineer level or managerial roles.
