About the apprenticeship

Duties

• Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff.
• To be able to demonstrate these skills and processes as the training period progresses by working independently or with a team, to undertake tasks as instructed and increasing overall contribution to the department.
• To undertake and successfully complete suitable courses throughout the training period, achieving the academic grades and practical skills in order to entitle yearly progression leading to the completion of the Level 3 Engineering Operative
• Learning and understanding the importance of Health and safety within the workplace
• To develop the skills to construct or modify products from verbal instructions and drawings.
• To learn how to maintain workshop equipment and to keep it in good repair

Additional information

The skills you will gain during the Apprenticeship Scheme include:

• Fabrication of sheet and structural steel
• Bending and forming steel
• Sheet development work
• The use of hand tools and machinery
• MIG (Stainless steel + Mild steel)
• TIG (Stainless steel + Mild steel)
• To be able to read engineering Drawings
• The ability to work within a team

• Competitive Salary
• Annual bonus ( up to 5%) based upon company and individual performance
• Company Pension scheme-5% company contribution when employee contributes 3% ( company contribution raises to 6% after three year service, and 7% after 5 years service)
• Group death in service cover , 2.5 times salary
• Authorised Overtime paid at 1.5 times hourly rate
• Based on a full time position of 39 hours per week - 25 days paid holiday plus public holidays. Holiday entitlement will be accumulated based on Pro Rata.
• PPE and protective clothing by Bay Productions
• Overseas travel opportunities available on production fit ups abroad.
• Non contributory Christmas and Staff event( 2-3 per year )

• Desirable attributes: * Valid driving licence

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
