About the apprenticeship

Duties

Put a plan in place to achieve sales targets taking remedial action to improve performance as necessary.
Monitor, record and feedback on sales performance to Area Manager, and identify and propose opportunities for further sales development.
Ensure staff are consistently aware of sales targets, and are motivated to maximise sales opportunities.
Maintain visual merchandising and retail standards along with window presentation to maximize sales potential of each range.
Ensure sales floor layout reflects company guidelines and appropriate adjacencies designed to encourage customer flow around the store and to create sales opportunities.
Appreciate the importance of proactive local marketing opportunities to driving business improvement
Maintain awareness of costs in line with sales, and proactively plan to make effective use of available budgets to maximize profit.
Personally demonstrate good customer awareness and interaction at all times.
Monitor and seek continuous improvement on the level of service given to customers.
Ensure product knowledge of your staff and yourself is developed and maintained to
maximize service standards and ability to sell, including staff awareness of in store promotional activities.
Ensure optimum stock levels are maintained on the sales floor, by deliveries being dealt with promptly and carrying out regular replenishment.

Staff the store effectively and within budget ensuring that levels are planned to accommodate both tasks and customer service window
Recruit staff as authorised by area manager to company procedure, within budget and to meet the commercial requirements of the store.
Induct all new staff in line with company
expectations
Train and develop team in line with company guidelines and coach individuals to reach their full potential.
Monitor, review and appraise individuals as company procedure, identifying those with potential for development and succession.
Monitor staff performance, behaviour and appearance on an ongoing basis. Undertake counselling / disciplinary action as appropriate.
Set and implement clear work objectives to effectively deploy the people within the team to the commercial benefit of the branch.
Set personal goals and objectives, develops own skills using available resources
Ensure all branch administration is completed according to company procedure. This includes all cash management and stock control activities
Fulfill obligations by adhering to the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 along with Company policy and procedures laid down in the Store Health & Safety Manual in order to ensure a safe working and shopping environment.
Ensure there is a consistently high degree of security awareness in all areas of the business and roles / responsibilities are clear and understood.
Treat all information in line with both company policy and Data Protection
Do not disclose information which is of a confidential nature to any party or individual unless authorised by your Line Manager.

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
