What will the apprentice be doing?

As part of the role you will be assisting the financial planning team to
  • undertake client meetings
  • ascertain clients' objectives; obtain and assess information regarding their current financial position
  • prepare financial assessment, strategy and recommendations
  • implement recommendations
  • provide an exceptional level of service to clients

Throughout the training programme the successful applicant will learn the business from the ground up:
  • dealing with clients, providers and stakeholders, verbally, on the telephone, face-to-face and in writing by email and post
  • maintaining accurate client files and back office systems
  • using various back office systems to extract information and present this in alternative formats to deal with queries
  • preparing for client meetings (agendas, policy valuations)
  • assisting with client meetings
  • note taking in client meetings and preparing concise summary notes to the client
  • supporting the financial planner with strategy and recommendations
  • using various software systems to assess clients' financial positions; attitude to risk; existing plans together with their shortfalls
  • supporting the paraplanner with preparing written recommendations
  • supporting the technical admin team with preparing client paperwork
  • supporting the financial planner to present recommendations to the client
  • submitting applications (primarily online)
  • monitoring application, investment and withdrawal processes

The successful applicant will undertake each of the office roles (administrator / technical administrator / paraplanner / financial planner) each with support initially, then under supervision, ultimately independently.

Once all aspects of the role have been experienced and the candidate has completed the apprenticeship qualifying as a financial planner, the candidate will be given the opportunity to select which area they would feel most comfortable in moving to a permanent role within the company.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

As part of this apprenticeship you will complete the Level 4 Financial Adviser apprenticeship standard, which includes:
  • Developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours of successful Financial Advisers
  • Free CII membership for non-members through the CII Aspire Apprenticeship Programme
  • Includes study book and exam entry for each R0 exam
  • Functional skills if needed
  • The Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning includes:
    - R01 Financial Services Regulation and Ethics
    - R02 Investment Principles and Risk
    - R03 Personal Taxation
    - R04 Pensions and Retirement Planning
    - R05 Financial Protection
    - R06 Financial Planning Practice
  • Fortnightly workshops for each R0 exam from our CII approved trainer
  • All workshops recorded and available on-demand
    Interactive chat, forums and class note books for real time support and assistance from experienced financial services professionals
  • Additional resources through RM Advance
  • Regular tutorials and assessments from an experienced financial services professional

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once qualified, the apprentice will be given the opportunity to apply to move into a financial planner or paraplanner role on a permanent basis. The company focuses strongly on personal development and encourages further study towards CII / PFS and CISI qualifications.
