Nominal Ledger


  • Assist in preparation and posting of journal transactions.
  • Assist with monthly checks including account reconciliations.
  • Assist with information for audit, tax and other regulatory matters.


Sales Ledger


  • Assist with the processing of invoices, payment receipts and debt collection.
  • Assist with monthly checks including account reconciliations.


Purchase Ledger


  • Assist with the processing of invoices, credit notes, payments and other entries.
  • Assist with reconciliation of account balances to supplier statements and resolving issues relating to differences such as missing invoices.
  • Assist with chasing approvals for invoices and authorisations for payment.
  • Assist with the processing of expenses.
  • Assist with processing of credit card expenses


Assistance in other areas finance on general and ad hoc matters to cover absence of others and develop new skills.


Training Provided:


As an Accountancy Apprentice with BPP, you will complete the Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship at Level 3. Within the apprenticeship you will undertake the full AAT Level 3 qualification.

The apprenticeship will be completed at a BPP centre or via the Online Classroom platform, in addition to at the workplace.


Qualification Requirements:

 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at grade 4/C and above and ideally 1 A Level


Personal Qualities & Skills:


  • MS Suite of products / software, especially Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Time management
  • Problem solving
  • General communication and interpersonal skills
  • Someone who pays attention to the detail and accuracy are key qualities, with an ability to self-check and accurately process transactions.
  • Willingness to ask others and work with others, with strong understanding of the requirement for accuracy and understanding of the processes and individual customer contracts and agreements.
  • Task focused, with excellent attention to detail but with desire to fully understand all the implications of the task and avoid giving customers reasons not to pay.
  • Willing to learn, train and develop in the role taking on more responsibility as knowledge and skills develop.
  • Good team player with a strong drive to fit in and work in the spirit of partnership with colleagues in other business areas.


Future Prospects:

Your minimum personal objective would be to become a qualified book-keeper or an Accountant. Progression through to Ledger Clerk Roles and to a Finance Assistant Role is highly likely for the right person and possibly a Finance Manager in time as the Company grows.
