What will the apprentice be doing?

The Apprentice Information Governance Officer will be a key member of the Data Privacy team, we are embarking on our data goverance strategy over the next two years and this role will play a key part in the implementation. Helping our internal stakeholders to ensure ongoing compliance with data protection law, regulation, freedom of information, privacy eletronic communicaitons regulations. The post holder will work closely across all divisions, develop policies, procedures, training, data flows and records of processing records and registers. Supporting the delivery and disclosure of data access requests, management and response to rights of erasure, to be forgotton, portability, restriction/objection of processing and automated processing of individuals personal data. The role will be part of a team implementing the data governance and compliance strategy and the ongoing management and quality of our records.

To help and support the Data Privacy team with the delivery and continuous improvement and quality of our data, manage ongong compliance with data protection laws, regulations and associated codes of practice and guidance.

Main Responsibilties:
  • Support the team's internal and external communication inboxes, prioritising requests to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and business timescales.
  • Support in the assessment and deployment of all requests made by individuals who exercise their rights, e.g.right to access, correct or erase their personal data in a timely and confidential manner
  • Assist in the assessment, collation and creation of LIA/DPIAs and escalate where required
  • Support the deployment record keeping and on-going engagement with information asset owners to create, update and Support our Record of Processing Activities
  • To support the ongoing identification and reporting of data protection issues, incidents and trends escalating these to the UK DPO
  • To support the triage, management and assessment of the UK incident management process keeping a clear record of near misses, potential breaches of personal data and actual data protection breaches
  • Update the business privacy notices
  • Support and keep up to date the Information Governance controls, (policies and procedures) and training material
  • Assist with trend analysis reports that feed into monthly board reports and other tasks
  • Investigate and triage data protection related incidents and provide guidance to affected stakeholders to reduce the likelihood of similar future complaints
  • Work with the DPO to develop in ensuring the company-wide training and awareness programme in respect of data protection related topics to employees is delivered
  • Perform other related duties as required

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Data Protection and Information Governance Practitioner (Level 4) Standard which includes:
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English Level 2 Functional Skills in maths

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Having full access to our Apprentice support mentoring, coaching and development programme the post holder will build a wealth of knowledge and over a 18 month period and upon succesful complete of the AIGO programme they will have a recoginsed industry practitioner certificate in data protection and the general data protection regulation. This will afford them the opportunity to futher their career in data privacy.
