About the apprenticeship


• The prime responsibilities are first to process all incoming telephone calls with no undue delay and in a courteous and helpful manner. Similarly, as a legal apprentice, to receive and process all visitors to the firm, especially clients, in a helpful, friendly and professional manner. In these respects, there is a high degree of responsibility to project the image and ethos of the firm at all times.
• The effective processing of all incoming telephone calls including the logging of calls and the conveying of messages.
• The provision of telephone support to partners and other staff members as required.
• Dealing with all visitors to the reception area, especially new clients and showing them to the waiting area.
• Administration of the facsimile machine.
• To ensure the tidiness of the reception area.
• To undertake other clerical and administrative duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.
• To ensure the confidentiality and security of the firm's and clients' documentation and information.

Additional information

Welsh speaking skills preferred, but not essential.



Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Good attention to detail to be able to carefully analyse files and data.
Desire to develop your understanding of the law.
The ability to manage multiple tasks or caseloads.
Willingness to learn
Possess drive and initiative
Excellent team player.


On entry if candidates do not possess GCSE A-C grades (or equivalent to), candidates will be required to complete Essential Skills Qualifications in Application of Number, Communication and Digital Literacy.

Why an apprenticeship?

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
