What will the apprentice be doing?

The business is looking for an Apprentice to train alongside our existing experienced HR team. As an apprentice, you will study a range of programmes working towards a Level 5 Human Resources Apprenticeship standard, covering a variety of duties whilst earning a wage and completing invaluable practical skills in industry. You can expect to cover the following duties:

Main Duties and responsibilities:
  • Works alongside the HR Business Partners (HRBP's) to provide solutions, advise and support to managers and employees in a wide range of people related topics
  • Supports the HRBP's and line managers in the effective recruitment of new talent into the business; managing applications, arranging interviews, corresponding with candidates and recruitment agencies and preparing contracts of employment
  • Supporting and coordinating on-boarding programs for new starters to the business, arranging introduction meetings, mandatory training and liaising with new starters and managers to ensure they have a positive introduction to the business
  • Supporting the Payroll Officer with the monthly payroll process through inputting of pay data into the payroll system, checking data for accuracy and generating monthly payroll analysis and reporting
  • Managing employee benefit programs including; cycle to work,
  • Tronox rewards - employee discount program, pension administration etc.
  • Providing general admin support to the HR department; creating correspondence for managers and employees, preparing communications and filing of employee data. Collating and presenting HR data to provide insight and help identify solutions
  • Support the HRBPs with site initiatives relating to the site people strategy, including Diversity and Inclusion, Employee Wellbeing,
  • Outward Mindset culture and Learning and Development

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Completion of CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate or Diploma in Human Resource Management, dependant on past experience.

This role could be called an HR consultant or an HR business partner in different organisations. Individuals in this role will use their HR expertise to provide and lead the delivery of HR solutions to business challenges, together with tailored advice to the business in a number of HR areas, typically to mid-level and senior managers. You will be in a generalist role, where you provide support across a range of HR areas - likely to be the Core HR option; or a specialist role, where they focus on and have in depth expertise in a specific area of HR. You will gain a good grounding across the whole range of HR disciplines as this is contained in both of the qualification options included in this standard. You will often be required to make decisions and recommendations on what the business can or should do in a specific situation. You will be influencing managers to change their thinking as well as bringing best practice into the organisation. You are also likely to lead the people related elements of business or HR projects.

The apprenticeship learning will cover:

HR technical expertise - Good understanding across all HR disciplines, HR legislation and an excellent working knowledge of the organisation's HR policies and procedures. Sound understanding of HR in their sector and any unique features. Up to date with best practice and emerging thinking - able to use this in their dealings with the business.

Business understanding - Understands what the organisation does, the external market and sector it operates in, its challenges and issues. Understands business and HR KPIs and metrics, building a clear picture of how the business is performing. Understands the impact of this on their role.

HR function - Understands the structure and responsibilities of the HR function, policies and processes, and where to source HR specialist expertise.

MI and technology - Understands HR systems and where to find HR and management data, both internally and externally, including benchmarking. Knows how technology, including social media, is impacting the business and HR.

Along with choosing an HR specialism option.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

This is a 24-month apprenticeship with the potential for further progression through the HR academic learning, employment opportunities. The successful apprentice may be eligible to apply for Associate membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) or any other professional body that recognises this apprenticeship within its membership criteria (membership is subject to the professional bodies own membership requirements).
