Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and motivated individual to join the Estates Energy & Sustainability Team, as an apprentice, at one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country.This is a busy and exciting time to be working in energy & sustainability, with the greatest challenges and opportunities the industry has ever seen, working in support of the Net Zero agenda. The post holder will undertake an apprenticeship course in Energy Management alongside working with the Trusts Energy & Sustainability team supporting the day to day efficient management of energy within the estates portfolio. The role will expose the successful candidate to all the knowledge and experience they will require to support them in their learning and to allow them to become a Junior Energy Manager. In addition to day to day management of utilities they will also be able to experience a number of large scale decarbonisation projects the Trust is currently delivering as well as spending some time with the wider Trust sustainability team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have a professional approach, excellent organisation, time management and communication skills and good attention to detail. Ability to develop skills in multi-tasking, data analysis, task prioritisation & basic technical/engineering knowledge.An understanding of the importance of carbon reduction will need to be evidenced. You will be educated to a minimum of GCSE level (A-Levels are desirable) with confidence in maths and the ability to interpret/analyse data; have knowledge Microsoft programmes; ability to learn new software. You will be a required to attend different sites and to sometimes work out of any of the Trusts 4 Acute Hospital Sites. Alongside the completion of their apprenticeship the Apprentice Junior Energy Manager will support the Trust Energy & Sustainability Manager with the efficient management of utilities as well as supporting the delivery of measures supporting the Trusts decarbonisation strategy and targets.Key responsibilities include (but not limited to): collation/analysis of utility data; identification of utility wastage; all aspects of utility billing/tariffs; improving data around the trusts utility infrastructure; support delivery of energy efficiency programmes; support the Trusts statutory and legislative compliance requirements (e.g. UK ETS and DECs); understand the different energy intensive processes within the Trust; support any reporting/surveys/audits; promote behaviour change strategies and campaigns.
