Job Details

As a Retail Degree Apprentice, you’ll need to think quickly on your feet, as you’ll be right in the heart of the action. Our 3 year Retail Degree Apprenticeship, delivered in partnership with University of Bradford (England) and 4 year Graduate Apprenticeship delivered with University of Strathclyde (Scotland), allows you to work towards a degree while preparing for a brilliant management career within our unique food retail business. Not only do we pay all your University fees, but you also get to work and earn a £22,000 starting salary.

Achieve a valuable degree and the start of a great career

Get an early taste of leadership when you take on responsibility for a team of colleagues within a department. You’ll work across all areas of our stores, gaining an overview of its operation and helping to keep our stores running smoothly. By the end of the three or four years, you will have the knowledge and skills to be a manager in one of our stores, with accountability for a range of departments. Show us real potential, and you could even progress onto our Store Manager Development Programme. Day-to-day tasks that you will be responsible for could include:

  • Ensuring the store is set up to the best standard to drive sales and make for a smoother customer experience
  • Leading teams to ensure that standards, regulations, and laws are met while trading
  • Creating and reviewing team rotas to ensure sufficient staff during the day
  • Supporting live business projects to develop your project management skills
  • Learning about our store trading operations and systems

As well as learning on-the-job, if in England, you’ll also be studying towards a Bsc (Hons) Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship at the University of Bradford. If you’re based in Scotland, you’ll be working towards a BA (Hons) Graduate Apprenticeship in Business Management with the University of Strathclyde. Balancing work and a degree course will be challenging. To support your learning, we will offer you study leave so you can complete your assignments and concentrate on your university studies. At the end of the 3 year scheme you will gain a full chartered membership of the CMI (Chartered Management Institute for England only).

As the fast-paced world of retail isn’t 9-5, your role will involve some early starts, late finishes, night shifts and working weekends and Bank Holidays. It’s hard work for sure. But it’s also very rewarding. Every day is different, and we’ll support you every step of the way. If you love helping customers- learning to become a retail manager is a great idea!

What you need to join us

A minimum of 112 UCAS points and GCSE Grade 4 in Maths and English are needed for this programme. You’ll be at the heart of our business so it’s important you’re comfortable making decisions and can work well in a team. Our Retail Degree Apprentices also need a few key attributes to succeed. These include:

  • Resilience
  • Determination
  • Good leadership
  • Flexibility to meet business needs
  • Willingness to travel between stores

Make good things happen

Our apprentices get access to all our employee benefits, including MyPerks. This is a reward and benefits scheme that updates regularly with new and exciting offers. Here’s what you could enjoy:

  • 25% cashback on JustEat
  • 6% cashback on Ticketmaster
  • Cinema tickets from £4.80

We have nearly 500 friendly stores in our local communities across the country. We love providing over 11 million customers every week with good quality fresh food and a great shopping experience they won't find anywhere else. You can play a key role in making an impact on your community as a Retail Degree Apprentice!

Join us, on our Degree Apprenticeship Programme and we can offer you an experience of retail that you won’t be able to get anywhere else.

Created in partnership with the University of Bradford and Sheffield Hallam University, this unique programme gives you the chance to work, earn and learn while studying towards a degree AND preparing for a career in management. (No wonder we were awarded Best School Leaver/Apprenticeship Strategy at this year’s ISE Awards!)

There are a number of different schemes to choose from, including Manufacturing, Logistics, Corporate, Retail, and Food Technical. All of them are designed to help you unlock your potential by learning on the job, taking responsibility for people and projects, and working towards either a Chartered Management and Business Degree Apprenticeship, a Retail Leadership Degree Apprenticeship or a Food Industry Professional Degree Apprenticeship (we also offer a level 4 Finance apprenticeship).

Throughout the programme you’ll enjoy getting paid for doing a real role. We’ll also look after you with great perks, lots of career opportunities and the training and support you need to be the best you can be. Because together, we all make Morrisons.
