About the apprenticeship

Duties

This post supports the provision of a full range of financial management services to the Shared Resource Service. assisting the Finance Officer with:
• The Annual Revenue Budget;
• Budget Monitoring and Reporting;
• Closure of Accounts;
• Reconciliation of Accounts;
• Procurement;
• Benchmarking and Trend Analysis;
• Service Developments and Business Cases.

Additional information

1. To assist in the preparation of the annual revenue budget in line with the SRS Framework and revenue budget setting timetable.
2. To assist with revenue budget monitoring:
• Reconciliation and review of financial ledger information;
• Preparation of a routine forecast and analysis of any significant variances;
• Production of budget virements or additional budget requests.
3. To assist with the closedown of the accounts in accordance with all relevant statutory requirements and within the agreed final accounts timetable.
4. To proactively assist with any audit requirements and benchmarking exercises.
5. To continually review existing financial and administrative processes to identify opportunities for rationalisation or improvement.
6. To support the procurement process.

7. To ensure conformance with any regulatory procedures and standards, assist in the general legislative requirements for Health & Safety, Equalities, Data Protection and Freedom of Information for your team and staff. For example, ensure that Health & Safety procedures and practices are adopted and adhered to and take responsibility for Workstation Assessments, Risk Assessments, checks and inspections are carried out appropriately.
8. To undertake any other duty that may reasonably be requested by the Finance Lead.

Who can apply?

To be eligible to apply you:

  • will be at least 16 years of age at the time of making your application
  • will not be in full-time education (you can apply while still attending school/college/university but will have finished or intend to finish your studies by the time your apprenticeship starts)
  • will need to meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements to apply.

ALS eligibility

Please note that ALS our training providers have their own eligibility in order to provide the funding required to undertake an apprenticeship. You may not be eligible to apply if:

  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in ICT, Software, Web and Telecoms or a similar subject
  • you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or above in Business Administration, Customer Service or a similar subject

What are the benefits?  

How much will I be paid?

You will earn £19,240 a year while training. When you pass your apprenticeship you can apply for a permanent job at the Welsh Government. Within 2 years of starting your apprenticeship you could be earning £22,500. 

You will get 31 days holidays as well as 10 public and privilege days. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you get the right work/life balance. You will also be eligible for membership of the Civil Service Pension Scheme
