What will the apprentice be doing?
This role is made up of two main elements, planning which is the thought process and strategy to delivering the scheme, then programming / scheduling which is the representation of the plan made.
Planners need to get under the skin of how we procure, design and build our projects to ensure the optimum strategy is achieved for our schemes. You need to be flexible and creative to align with the scope and size of the projects we deliver and you may have the opportunity to work wholly on-site (as part of a large planning team), in-office, or a balance of both depending on project characteristics.
Over the course of the programme, you will spend the first 12 months on site to gain a better understanding of construction projects and the roles involved. You will then be given more and more responsibilities eventually having responsibility for individuals sections or packages. Your programme will include:
· Training on the planning software and methods
· Attending site visits to understand build processes and sequencing
· Using benchmark data you will learn how to establish durations, then integrate logic to develop overall programmes
· Once a certain aptitude for the software and processes has been gained you will be allocated to projects in support of site planner and will be involved in weekly updates, weekly planning meetings, and implementing instructed changes to the programme, under the guidance of a more senior planner
· Gaining an understanding of how planning supports all aspects of the delivery of the project
· Site experience which also supports the learning of site processes and construction methodology and terminology
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Our apprenticeship programme provides exposure to all aspects of the business. In addition to attending university online one day a week. You'll rotate through different departments so you can get a solid feel for how your specialism fits within a typical project lifecycle and we offer additional soft skills and technical training to compliment your Apprenticeship.
You will gain a level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment.
