About the apprenticeship

Duties

The role of Intervention Support Officer involves providing a core support function across a wide range of interventions and activities.
To provide an effective and flexible approach to supporting learner wellbeing abd academic achievement in line with school protocols and procedures.

The aim is to help young people to enjoy their school life journey that is healthier, safer and successful through sport and physical activity participation.
To engage young people from lower socio-economic groups through sport and physical activity at the right time, in the right place and in the right style that supports well-being and academic achievement.
Undertake a recognised/relevant qualification such as City and Guilds 1st 4Sport NVQ Level 3 PE & School Sport apprentivceship course . Three hours per week will be allocated in school time to support the completion of any module work towards their apprenticeship course.

The successful candidate would be expected to start in September and monitor pupil wellbeing and undertake intervention work with individuals and small groups to improve attainment, conduct, resilience and attendance.

This will involve working with children whose behaviour and disaffection have a significant impact on their attainment.

They will therefore support the ethos of the school, and improve pupil progress and achievement by helping to minimise barriers to learning and maximise pupil participation.

Additional information

• Undertake a recognised/relevant qualification such as City and Guilds 1st 4Sport NVQ Level 3 PE & School Sport apprenticeship course.
• Should be able to demonstrate a reasonable standard of education with proficiency in literacy and numeracy to a GCSE C grade level in English and Maths or above.
• All applicants should also have experience of working with or caring for children of relevant age in either a paid, voluntary or domestic environment and will need to be able to show an interest in children's development and a wide range of issues concerning their education and welfare.
• An ability to relate well to both children and adults.
• The ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.

• Experience in Emotional Literacy strategies
• An understanding of BESd support strategies
• An understanding of ASD support strategies
• Specific qualifications in the field of emotional literacy support or emotions coaching.
• Appropriate knowledge of general first aid.
• Basic understanding and use of technology i.e. computer, video, photocopier.
• Evidence of working constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.
• The ability to speak Welsh is highly desirable
