What will the apprentice be doing?

The Role:

We are looking for someone to join our In-House Tax Team.

The JD Group Tax Team is dynamic and hard-working. Working within our team is one of the best ways to kick start your career, developing real world understanding that you don't get in a professional services firm. Through real life projects and high qualify formal training you will have a huge head start and unrivalled retail tax experience. You will also gain a strong and practical grounding in accounting and financial reporting.

You will study for an internationally recognised professional qualification (ACA/ CTA) whilst seeing first-hand the real commercial impact taxation has on an international business. Instead of just learning from textbooks you will see tax being applied in practice!

You will be coached by members of the Group Tax Team, who are experts in their field and have over 30 years' Group experience between them.

Key Responsibilities.

All members of the Tax Team are responsible for advising and supporting the global JD Group on a full range of tax issues. Often this role is wider than just tax, including ledger accounting, accounts provisioning, providing tax advice to subsidiaries, involvement in M&A activities, all whilst ensuring the Group remains compliant.

Examples include:
  • Analysis of underlying accounting records to prepare tax returns.
  • Assistance with calculating payments, including liaising with subsidiaries to understand changes in forecasts, managing timing of payments and subsequent double entry accounting.
  • Analysis of data for group provisioning and statutory accounts preparation.
  • Collating information required for tax audits and presenting this in line with key stakeholder requirements.
  • Testing of internal controls in relation to tax governance.
  • Documentation of findings and conclusions, process maps and cost modelling.
  • Review and preparation of tax data as part of (M&A) acquisition and disposal activities.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Accounting and Taxation Professional Level 7 - ACA/CTA joint qualification. The ATT and CTA Tax Pathway lets you fast track through two tax qualifications to become both a Taxation Technician and a Chartered Tax Adviser. It also gives you the opportunity to specialise at an earlier stage. There are two pathways to choose from to complete the qualification, please refer to the Kaplan website for further details. There are two ways to complete the dual qualification. The Application and Skills paper is compulsory and must be completed to achieve the CTA qualification. The Application exam itself will be revised with a pre-seen scenario released two weeks ahead of the exam. This will be assessed on a competency basis, with a stronger focus on advisory and writing skills. An apprenticeship has to be relevant to the job you are undertaking and you must dedicate 20% of their time towards it.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
