What will the apprentice be doing?
Purpose of Position:
- To be a flexible, dynamic, professional and proactive member of the team responsible for meeting the physical, personal and emotional needs of children in a way that both respects their individuality and aids the healing process
- To work towards enabling children to complete the Windows for Children therapeutic programme as whole and strong people, with a range of appropriate skills and strategies
- To promote the physical, social, academic and emotional well-being of every child
- To support the programme's equal opportunities policy and ethos by ensuring the highest standard of understanding and knowledge
- To be a positive role model at all times
- To conduct myself as an positive ambassador of, and custodian of Windows for Children's reputation at all times
- To familiarise myself with and adhere to the Windows for Children Staff Code of Conduct
- To work in close liaison with the rest of the staff group, and participate in staff meetings, staff training and development activities
- To assist children who need help, reassurance, comfort or refreshment, including during a sleeping-in duty
- To carry out all necessary paperwork during shifts (i.e. RCW forms, Contact/Health/Education Event Sheets, Case Notes, Therapeutic Observations etc.)
- To help in the general running and maintenance of the home, including performing domestic duties
- To ensure that all relevant information is handed over at the change of shifts
- To undertake sleeping in duties and assist the waking night staff when required
- To actively participate in regular supervision sessions and appraisals. To be critically reflective in your own practice and recognise that learning is a lifelong undertaking
- To read, understand and follow all Windows for Children policies and procedures
- To attend and contribute to the weekly team meeting
- To organise, support, lead, observe and report on therapeutic group games/exercises
- To undertake individual direct work with children, and to support colleagues who are undertaking such work
- To put the children's well-being and safety, and fire and accident prevention first in every situation
- To adhere to the company dress policy ensuring that the home environment is desexualised
- To remain vigilant at all times and to report any concerns to the Designated/Deputy Designated Safeguarding lead as soon as is practically possible
- To report any concerns, critical observations or safeguarding issues to the Designated/Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leader
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- To work closely with the teacher to undertake reasonable duties to support the child in the learning environment and support children with homework and or projects
The apprentice will undertake the Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Standard, NCFE Level 3 Diploma for Residential Children, on and off the job training, Functional Skills, developing their Skills Knowledge and behaviours. All training will take place within the working week within the workplace. Site visits will be carried out by a personal Tutor.What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
