What will the apprentice be doing?
As an Apprentice Environmental Consultant, with Arup you will develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours in the following areas:
- Technical knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues working with a range of specialists in air quality, archaeology and heritage, carbon, climate resilience, contaminated land, ecology, landscape, noise and vibration, water, waste and resource management;
- Programme and project management;
- Research, information management and report writing;
- Contract and financial management;
- Teamwork and communication skills.
These competencies will be developed through practical on-the-job training, working with experienced environmental and sustainability consultants and classroom-based training with Arup and a local University. You will be assigned a mentor within the Arup environmental consulting team who you will work and liaise closely with in your day-to-day work.
During your day to day work you will have the opportunity to contribute to the planning and design of environmental projects through the collection and preparation of data, presentation of written information and analysis to determine the impacts upon the environment and people associated with the design, construction and operation of buildings, development and infrastructure projects.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
As part of your apprenticeship, you'll study towards the Environmental professional body accredited/approved BSc (Hons) Environmental Science (or equivalent degree title).
Our apprenticeships allow you to study for industry-recognised qualifications whilst earning a competitive salary. As an apprentice, you will study with a training provider, such as a university, and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. Your study pattern could be day or block release, or via distance learning, depending on the course that you enrol on. A dedicated mentor will guide you through your personal and professional development.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
When joining us as one of our apprentices, you'll enjoy the opportunity to study for a paid, professionally-recognised qualification in a discipline that will help you further your career.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll have access to our online network. You'll also take internal courses. These cover technical aspects of the business, such as software, but also vital 'soft' skills such as report writing and working effectively.
