Data Graduate Pathway - Aviva

With some 18 million UK customers, we have one of the broadest and deepest data sets in the financial services industry. Within it, lie the answer to every question, the solution to every problem and the path to every new and exciting opportunity.

Data - and how we use it to serve our customers better and make smarter business decisions - will be one of the most important aspects of our strategy over the next 10 years. And if you join us here as a graduate, you'll be right at the heart of it all.

Your role, more specifically:

As a Data graduate at Aviva, you will join a global, data specific community that we call 'Quantum'. Quantum has been created to ensure that Aviva is at the leading edge of data techniques. The community will support, champion and encourage you on your journey as a graduate and there will be lots of opportunities to learn from our highly skilled and experienced data colleagues; you will be able to connect with others passionate about data, share best practice and draw on each other's expertise to help you develop to your potential.

There are a number of different roles, or specialisms that you can go into at Aviva if you have a passion for data; below summarises them:

Data Science

Using all kinds of scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from data.

Data Analysis

Working closely with colleagues internally to answer questions and make decisions about the products and services we provide.

Data Engineering

Being part of the team responsible for designing and building the systems we use to collect, store and analyse data.

Data Governance & Privacy

Playing a crucial part in how we manage the availability, usability, integrity and security of data.

Reporting & Management Information

Focusing on how we analyse and visualise information to help make smarter business decisions.

By applying for a Data graduate role at Aviva, you are applying for the whole Pathway. Throughout the processes our teams will assess where your strengths lie and for which specialism but whatever your role is, you'll have the option of enrolling on a higher-level data apprenticeship course that'll provide you with a more structured learning journey - Apprenticeships up to level 7 (Master's equivalent) are available. And if you do enrol, you'll be given dedicated study time to attend classes, complete exercises and undertake projects.

What's in it for you?

A permanent job from day one
A starting salary of GBP30,600
Support towards relevant professional qualifications (including Level 7 Masters Apprenticeship)
29 days holiday, plus bank holidays
Contributory pension scheme
Up to 40% discount for Aviva products
Brilliant flexible benefits including electric cars
Annual performance-related bonus
Share Save scheme
21 volunteering hours per year
Flexible working and wellbeing support

What do we need from you?

You will either already have a degree or be on track to graduate by the end of Summer 2023
If you have studied a STEM related subject then great, but it is not a pre-requisite, although a passion for numbers and information is
A genuine interest in computing and the power of data
Programming experience isn't essential, but an interest to learn would be beneficial. If you do already understand the basics of a popular programming language like Python, R or SQL, then great!
A passion for getting your head around complex problems
The ability to explain your idea in a language that everyone can understand

Where will you be based?

Our graduate roles in Data are based in our Bristol, York, Sheffield, Eastleigh, Norwich and London offices - all great locations in which to launch your career.

But you might not need to be in the office every day. At Aviva, we ask our teams to think about when they work in the office and when they choose to work at home. We call this Smart Working. This will vary depending on your role and your personal circumstances but 3 days in the office, and 2 days from home is a very typical example. As we do this office/home blend you will need to live in commutable distance to one of the locations listed above.

A bit about us

We're a leading international insurance, savings, retirement and investment business. When the worst happens, we're here to put the wrongs right.

You might be thinking that we're just another boring, corporate firm. But we don't all wear suits and shiny shoes here. We're proud to be different and just like our customers, our people are a mix of cultures, genders and ages.

Like the sound of us? Then we like the sound of you.

Press 'apply' to be taken through to our online application, where you'll answer a short questionnaire about your motivations. You'll also be able to attach your CV. If you match our criteria, we'll ask you to complete our Situational Strengths and Numerical Reasoning tests. Pass those and next will be a video interview. The final stage is a virtual assessment day, with tasks that enable you to show us what you're good at and what you enjoy.

Impress us there and we'll offer you a role to start in September 2023.

Aviva is for everyone:

We are inclusive - we want applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Excited but not sure you tick every box? Research tells us that women, particularly, feel this way. So, regardless of gender, why not apply. And if you're in a job share just apply as a pair.

We flex locations, hours and working patterns to suit our customers, business, and you.

Most of our people are smart working - spending around 60% of their time in our offices and 40% at home.
