Job summary

TeamNNUH's Medicine Division is looking to recruit Apprentice Health Care Assistants to join its dedicated team of staff.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about helping and caring for others.

An Apprenticeship is an opportunity to develop new skills and gain experience in the NHS, whilst working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification. You will be enrolled with a local education provider and supported by your department to complete your Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship within the duration of the contract.

The Medicine Division is one of the largest within the hospital, with wards covering the following specialities:
  • Older People's Medicine
  • Cardiology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Respiratory
  • Oncology and Haematology
  • Renal/Dialysis
  • Endocrinology
  • Acute Medical Unit
  • Neuroscience/Stroke Unit

Main duties of the job

*This is a fixed term contract for 14 months* We as a Trust encourage and support your progression beyond your Apprenticeship and will be here to help!

We are very proud of our Apprentice success rates, with 92% of Apprentices successfully obtaining a substantive post within the Trust at the end of their Apprenticeship contract, and 98% of Apprentices having further plans in place following their Apprenticeship e.g. going on to further education, joining the NNUH staff bank or obtaining employment at another organisation.

Apprenticeship Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants must be:
  • Aged 16+
  • Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years
  • Must not have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above
  • Must not be in any form of formal government-funded education upon the start of their apprenticeship

Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Good general standard of education
  • 4 GCSE's at Grade D/3 or above (or equivalent) subject to the job specification
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good IT skills

Full time: 37.5 hours per week

You will be supported in post clinically by your line manager and by an assigned mentor within the department, as well as our dedicated Clinical Educator and Practice Development team. With regards to the qualification, you will also have an assigned assessor at City College Norwich and regular mentoring from a Career Facilitator from the Trusts Apprenticeship Team. The role will involve attendance at college two days a month one day online and one day in college at City College Norwich (Ipswich Road campus).

Youll be joining a friendly and highly supportive team, where there will be plenty of opportunity to progress and develop your skills. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, hardworking, and flexible person to assist with the smooth running of our busy wards.
  • To accurately and promptly carry out the instructions of the Registered Nurse (RN) who is professionally accountable for the delivery of care.
  • To deliver care and carry out duties as specified within the Trusts Approved core task list for Healthcare assistants.
  • To report to RN any patient who gives cause for concern or any observed changes in the patients condition.
  • To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receives appropriate care.
  • To participate in the admission process under the supervision of RN.
  • Provide and deliver a high standard of individualised personal nursing care.
  • To report all care that has been given to patients within the team to a RN.
  • To accurately document all care delivered to patients, countersigned by a RN maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • To assist in the preparation of patients and equipment for treatment, investigations or procedures as directed by the RN.
  • To keep the clinical area clean and tidy maintaining a safe environment.
