What will the apprentice be doing?

Qualifications
GCSE or equivalent Maths & English (Grade C/4 or above) Essential
A Level or equivalent Biology and/or Chemistry (Grade BBC (112 UCAS points)) Essential
The apprentice will be an integral part of the Protein Science team, working in a multi-disciplinary environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the compound screening activities, initially with direct supervision, such as:
- Preparation of buffer solutions for biochemical assays
- Growing and harvesting bacteria for recombinant protein production
- Run protein QC analysis and electrophoresis
- Measure protein binding to peptides and/or compounds using plate-based assays
- Perform data analysis of experimental data
- Run weekly stock check of Protein Sciences labs
- Work according to health and safety risk assessments relating to laboratory work and apply COSHH regulations when required
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Level 6 BSc (Hons) Laboratory Science
Training will be provided on the job, this will include:
- Health and safety inductions to ensure compliance of all safety regulations
- Introduction on different techniques as the apprentice takes them on by scientists in the team
- Shadowing scientists in the lab conducting different tasks before taking over
- Running experiments with direct supervision
