Job summary

**14 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship**

We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification.

You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship Programme within the duration of the placement.

TeamNNUH's busy Gastroenterology ward,Guist, is seeking a determined and dedicated candidate to join their team asApprentice Ward Clerk.

We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification.

You will be joining a progressive and friendly team committed to delivering high standards of care, and you will be working alongside our consultants, nurse practitioners and nursing colleagues. Guist Ward has a busy atmosphere and treats a range of patients, you will be supported by the Ward Sister as well as the administrative staff.

Full time 37.5 hours per week

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the position are to provide front line receptionist services, comprehensive administrative support to the ward team including efficient admission and discharge of patients and management of medical notes. Keyboard and computer skills are essential, training on the computer system will be provided.

To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's 'PRIDE' values of People focused, Respect, Dedication, Integrity and Excellence.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must be:
  • Aged 16+
  • Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years
  • Must not have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above
  • Must not be in any form of formal government-funded education upon the start of their apprenticeship

Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Good general standard of education
  • 4 GCSE's at Grade D/3 or above (or equivalent)
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good IT skills

  • Liaise with all Wards/Departments/Staff as and when required, arranging tests and transfers as required.
  • Greet and direct all visitors, e.g. patients, patients relatives, GPs, chaplains and representatives to the appropriate member of staff/patient.
  • Answer the telephone and deal with or refer on all incoming calls to the ward staff as appropriate.
  • Receive and distribute post.
  • Maintain admission and discharge records accurately so that they are up to date and correspond with PAS.
  • Keep the Bed State up to date (real time) on an agreed and timely basis.
  • Input accurate and timely data onto the PAS system, ie patients admitted, transferred, discharged from the ward.
  • Maintain patients records, filing all documents in the correct order, including all investigation reports.
  • Check that all documentation is complete when the patient is discharged from the ward, before allowing the notes to leave the ward.
