Internal combustion engines have dominated automotive propulsion since cars were introduced, but we are reimagining the future. While continuing to refine the quality of our combustion engines, we are expanding into electrification, catering to the demands of today and tomorrow. As an Applied Professional Engineering Degree Apprentice, you will become a multi-disciplinary engineer, developing digital technology solutions for modern luxury vehicles that are renowned for their desirability and performance.

Control Technical Support pathway – Whitley, Gaydon

Control Technical Support Engineers are responsible for the design, installation and commissioning of the buildings and assembly facilities that we use to manufacture future products. Your skillset will ensure that any breakdowns that occur are kept to a minimum and that any issues are rapidly and permanently resolved.

As an apprentice on this pathway, you will work in the Engineering Operations (EO) function. EO underpins technical innovation and product delivery with engineering expertise, tools and processes, and specialist technical support to create our world class products.  Along the way, you will learn all about Programmable Logic Controller software and the successful operation of robots, whilst gaining knowledge of control specifications and manufacturing standards.

Notably, you will focus on control processes that use sensors as an input while testing, planning, installing, monitoring and maintaining control systems as required. You will also ensure that all instruments used with the engineering labs are calibrated. This is a vital workstream due to the increased quantity of rigs to be installed in the next five years in engineering labs.

Your Education Provider

As part of your Apprenticeship, you will study for a BEng in Applied Professional Engineering with the University of Warwick (WMG).

Over the first three years of your Apprenticeship, you will study a range of modules designed to help you develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to thrive as an engineering professional. A network of apprentice tutors and line managers will regularly review your progress and offer advice to support you in performing at your best.

These modules are taught in blocks throughout the academic year by Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), a key part of the University of Warwick. You will benefit from a mix of lectures, practical laboratory assignments, seminars and tutorials delivered in person and online, and enjoy access to a virtual learning environment for further support.

In your final year, you will undertake a work-based project that also forms part of your End Point Assessment (EPA). On successful completion of your EPA, you will achieve your Level 6 Apprenticeship – and will be ready for an amazing career with Jaguar Land Rover.
