You can find out more about our site locations here: https://www.jaguarlandrovercareers.com/content/United-Kingdom/?locale=en_GB

Hybrid working is potentially available, depending on the area and manager.

Jaguar Land Rover is a multi-site business and you’ll be required to spend time working with different departments at several locations. Once you’ve successfully completed your apprenticeship, you can look forward to a long-term career with us. The role you take on will depend on your performance, personal preferences and business needs.

We are the future of modern luxury

We are the pioneers creating the next-generation of outstanding vehicles, founded on modern luxury. Each and every one of us are shaping the exceptional with soul. We are reimagining the driving of tomorrow and redefining what’s possible.

We are the future of movement.

We can’t wait to see what you can do with us.

Level 6 Applied Professional Engineering Programme Degree Apprenticeship

Our Applied Professional Engineering Degree Apprenticeship programme is aimed at those with a passion for learning and innovation. Ambitious, innovative and determined people who respect our heritage and can think beyond the challenges of today to build the cars of tomorrow.

Internal combustion engines have dominated automotive propulsion since cars were introduced, but we are reimagining the future. While continuing to refine the quality of our combustion engines, we are expanding into electrification, catering to the demands of today and tomorrow. As an Applied Professional Engineering Degree Apprentice, you will become a multi-disciplinary engineer, developing digital technology solutions for modern luxury vehicles that are renowned for their desirability and performance.

Electrical or Electronic Technical Support pathway

Electronics is the driving force behind most of the innovations in modern vehicles. You can find electronic parts in most, if not all, active components of our products – from sensors and actuators inside traditional mechanical components like dampers all the way up to sophisticated, purely electric propulsion systems. As an Electrical and Electronics Engineer you will learn a variety of different skills including electronic circuit design, power electronics, embedded safety critical system design, programming and more.

Applied Professional Engineering Programme apprentices following the Electrical and Electronics pathway could be based within any of the following teams: Digital Products Platform (DPP), Engineering Powertrain (EP), Engineering Operations (EO) or Engineering Quality (EQ). You will be asked to indicate your preference during the application process.

Digital Products Platform (DPP) – Gaydon

Our DPP team is responsible for developing and testing our products, using sophisticated test rigs. Identifying issues with data, you will assist our System Engineers in finding corrective solutions and quickly develop skills in using equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters and analysing bus logs, snapshot data and vehicle configuration and test system (VCATS) data.

As you build your knowledge, you will find yourself understanding the impacts and interfaces software has across our vehicle communication networks, including interaction with sensors and actuators. The work you do within the DPP team will assist us in our understanding of how customers use our vehicles and will help us in developing algorithms to meet their needs, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) spanning cameras, radar, touchscreens and infotainment technology.

Engineering Powertrain (EP) – Gaydon or Whitley

EP leads in the design, test, validation and certification of world-class propulsion systems aimed at delivering exceptional driving experiences. In this area, you will work across electrified propulsion systems, including battery technology, electric drive units, charging and the power electronics that will underpin the next generation of electrified powertrains. You could also focus on the next generation of propulsion thermal systems to maximise vehicle range and keep cabin occupants comfortable or future propulsion technologies including hydrogen, fuel cells and alternative fuels.

In all areas of propulsion, you will work on some of the most desirable and sought-after automotive products. Our vehicles are tested to the most extreme limit cases in the industry to ensure they are the most capable in all environments.

Engineering Operations (EO) – Gaydon

EO underpins technical innovation and product delivery with engineering expertise, tools and processes, and specialist technical support to deliver our world class products. As an Apprentice within EO, you will be fundamentally involved at every stage of the engineering process – driving exciting transformation to deliver products with class-leading technology and quality.

Train as an Electrical Rigs Test Engineer and you will learn all about the electrical architecture of vehicles and rigs whilst developing key skills in software, test support and project delivery. Alternatively, as a Test Engineer you could become an expert on batteries, from cells to modules and stacks, or you could train as an Electrical Specialist Engineer and support our move from mechanical-based test rigs to mechatronic systems.

Engineering Quality (EQ) – Solihull

Our EQ team interfaces and collaborates with stakeholders in Product Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing Programme Management (MPM), Vehicle Configuration and Test Systems (VCATS) and Manufacturing Launch throughout the pre-production and production build phases. Its mission is to deliver the electrical quality targets set by Product Engineering to achieve the world-class performance levels expected by our customers. As an apprentice in this key area, you will rapidly develop in-demand skills whilst acting as the interface between core engineering teams and manufacturing.

In short, this is the team that sets the world-class performance standards demanded by our customers. You can support the launch of new vehicles and the refinement of current cars, placing you at the heart of everything we do.

Your Education Provider

As part of your Apprenticeship, you will study for a BEng in Applied Professional Engineering with the University of Warwick (WMG).

Over the first three years of your Apprenticeship, you will study a range of modules designed to help you develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to thrive as an engineering professional. A network of apprentice tutors and line managers will regularly review your progress and offer advice to support you in performing at your best.

These modules are taught in blocks throughout the academic year by Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), a key part of the University of Warwick. You will benefit from a mix of lectures, practical laboratory assignments, seminars and tutorials delivered in person and online, and you will also enjoy access to a virtual learning environment for further support.

In your final year, you will undertake a work-based project that also forms part of your End Point Assessment (EPA). On successful completion of your EPA, you will achieve your Level 6 Apprenticeship – and will be ready for an amazing career with Jaguar Land Rover.

You can find out more about your curriculum here: https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/wmg/education/undergraduatept/applied-professional-engineering/
