Job Details

A career that will deliver change. Together, we can help Britain achieve net zero.

Join our Supply Chain Graduate programme and you can make an immediate impact, powering the nation today, whilst helping to build a sustainable energy future for tomorrow.

During my scheme training I was presented with endless opportunities to expand my knowledge and skills in all areas of the HPC Supply Chain. This has allowed me to gain experience in aspects such as procurement, contract administration, forecasting contract costs and Contractor Relationship Management, all whilst being involved in such a unique, large-scale project. This has provided me with a very good foundation as I now begin my career as a Commercial Manager at HPC.

  • Jasmin Uminski, Commercial Manager HPC

The Supply Chain Graduate Scheme provides the opportunity to experience a variety of Supply Chain roles and responsibilities including procurement, contract management, supplier development and oversight in a unique industry whilst also gaining operational experience visiting our nuclear power stations. Graduates in the team benefit from a great support structure and training programme to encourage learning from experienced team members and those previously on the scheme, with dedicated mentors and sponsoring managers. Outside of your role in each team there is also the opportunity to learn about other areas of the business, participate in department and companywide projects and networks to tailor your overall experience in the company to your interests and needs.

  • Becky Moss, Supply Chain Specialist – Nuclear Generation

What is the Generation & Hinkley Point C (HPC) Supply Chain Graduate Scheme?

A wide range of suppliers provide works, goods and services to support the safe construction, operation and defueling of our nuclear power stations. How do we select and develop them to ensure we deliver to our Safety, Quality, Time and Cost targets? That is part of the job of our Supply Chain teams.

During this two-year graduate scheme, you’ll experience different areas of Supply Chain, in both Nuclear Generation (operational nuclear plants) and in Hinkley Point C (construction of the new nuclear plant).

This scheme has been designed to expose you to Supply Chain’s work, ensuring continual improvement in a major infrastructure construction project and nuclear operating context, as well as giving you an opportunity to understand wider strategic business challenges.

Training, development and support for you:

We’re passionate about your development and offer a tailored training path that will help develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours, both during the scheme and in your future career.

Completing attachments within Supply Chain teams across Nuclear Generation and Hinkley Point C, means you’ll gain an insight into the operation of a large utility company and commercial and supplier/supply chain management in a highly-regulated business undergoing significant transformation.

You’ll develop your strategic and operational skills as you support the delivery of tangible benefits to the organisation through live projects.

Previous Graduates have helped organise supplier conferences; tender, negotiate and place contracts; supported specification & strategy updates and worked on nuclear power stations supporting supply chain teams during the delivery of major maintenance contracts. You’ll also travel to suppliers’ offices and EDF sites in order to support our key stakeholders and internal customers.

During the programme, you’ll work towards gaining a Level 4 qualification in Procurement and Supply practices through the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), an industry wide recognised qualification. This qualification will provide you with a broad understanding, tools and insight to best practice in procurement and supply that you’ll be able to apply immediately in your workplace at EDF. You’ll be in good-hands as the Nuclear Generation Supply Chain team has held the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Procurement Excellence Programme award at the highest level of Platinum since 2013!

Where you’ll work:

You’ll be based at either Gloucester (Nuclear Generation office) or Bristol/Bridgwater (HPC offices). As well as spending the majority of your time working out of your host office you’ll also spend a minimum of three months on attachment at the other business unit (Generation/HPC) to give you the wider business appreciation.

Both business units currently operate hybrid-working arrangements averaging 2-3 days in the office. We offer a great work/life balance to support people's personal lives whilst giving them the opportunity to network and learn.

What you’ll need to apply:

  • On track to achieve or will have already achieved a 2:2 undergraduate degree or 2:2 postgraduate qualification in disciplines such as Supply Chain & Logistics, Business Management, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Geography (although others may be considered for particularly strong candidates)
  • You’ll have a professional outlook with commercial awareness
  • Self-motivated, analytical and cool under pressure, you’ll combine technical knowledge (specifically MS Office) with great all-round people skills
  • A self-starter, a problem solver with a questioning attitude and desire to succeed
  • Willingness to relocate as required (Gloucester/Bristol area) and be flexible to enable successful attachments at other business units as defined by the programme

We use a strengths-based selection process so that you can show us what you enjoy, as well as what you’re good at, because we believe that our individual strengths are at the heart of engagement and motivation to succeed and perform whilst at work.  You'll find tips and advice about the application process and assessment centre dates on our Graduate web pages.
