Job Description:
Our Solicitor Apprentice Programme allows you to qualify as a solicitor by completing a Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship over a period of 6 years. This is the same length of time as it would take to qualify via the traditional route. Our Programme combines practical work based learning with formal study towards an LLB (Hons) in Legal Practice at BPP University Law School.
Your tuition fees will be paid and you will earn a salary while you are training. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical legal experience in a leading, independent law firm which will enhance your legal and commercial understanding as you grow in confidence in a workplace environment. It is an ideal chance to benefit from a combination of work and study whilst avoiding the usual associated costs of attending university and law school.
You will spend 1 day a week studying towards your formal legal qualifications and 4 days per week working at Myerson. During the Apprenticeship, you will spend time working across the firm in both our business services and legal departments. You will have the opportunity to work in several of our legal departments which include:
- Construction
- Corporate
- Commercial
- Insolvency
- Dispute Resolution
- Employment
- Family
- Probate Litigation
- Real Estate
- Real Estate Litigation
- Residential Property
- Wills, Trusts and Probate
In terms of study, we are pleased to have partnered with BPP University and they will be our training provider. The 6 year Programme consists of 20 modules which are studied and assessed over the duration of the course. In the first 4 years, you will focus on the foundational principles of law and develop your professional skills. In the final 2 years you will then develop knowledge of different areas of legal practice and professional skills. The final assessment of our Solicitor Apprenticeship Programme is the new Solicitors Qualifying Exam which all aspiring solicitors will have to pass (replacing the old Legal Practice Course).
The culture at Myerson offers an innovative and distinct workplace in both its approach and ideologies. We are ranked in the Lawyer Top 200 Law Firms in the UK and pride ourselves on our supportive, collaborative workplace culture for all of our employees. This will be no different for our Apprentices. You will have mentors and supervisors who are ready to give you the time and support you need to develop both personally and professionally. By the time you qualify as a solicitor, you will have a deep understanding of the firm and how it operates.
It is important to remember that working at Myerson isn’t all about working hard. We have an active social life and there are plenty of opportunities to participate in corporate social responsibility activities as well as social events. Over the last 12 months our social events have included easter egg making, a ceilidh (look it up – it’s great fun!) Christmas wreath making, axe throwing, cocktail mixing and candle crafting with plenty more events lined up over the next year. We also have a running club, book club, yoga club and personal training club so there are plenty of activities for Apprentices to get involved in!
We understand that a 6 year Apprenticeship is a big commitment and requires making a big, career defining decision right at the start of your working life. Therefore, if you have any questions or queries about our Solicitor Apprenticeship Programme please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. You can contact James Birch, our Talent Acquisition Manager, at james.birch@myerson.co.uk or call him on 07949402234. James is also be happy to meet with applicants/parents/guardians to discuss the Programme and application process in more detail.
Training Provided:
As a Solicitor apprentice with BPP, you will complete the Solicitor Level 7 Apprenticeship. Additional learning within the apprenticeship at levels 4, 5 and 6 will enable you to be awarded an LLB (Hons) Law and Legal Practice, from BPP.
Your Level 7 apprenticeship shall be delivered by a blend of online and face-to-face from BPP [alongside our award-winning internal training]. Coupled with the on-the-job learning, completion of the apprenticeship will lead to obtaining your solicitor qualification.
The apprenticeship standard is based on the SRA’s Statement of Solicitor Competence. Achievement of the standard and the associated apprenticeship assessment plan will satisfy the SRA’s regulatory framework for qualification as a solicitor, subject to the SRA’s usual tests of character and suitability.
Qualification Requirements:
A-level: ABB (or equivalent)
Personal Qualities & Skills:
We are looking for bright, determined, resilient and hard-working applicants who themselves are looking for a supportive and collaborative environment in which to begin their career. A proven academic record is important, along with the ability to demonstrate high levels of attention to detail, strong communication and problem-solving skills. This position will see you balance both study and work, so being prepared and organised is very important.
A 6 year Apprenticeship Programme is a big commitment (on both sides), so first and foremost, we are looking for applicants who are dedicated to a career in law with a passion for legal study and have a strong desire to qualify as a solicitor.
Our core values are at the heart of everything we do, so above all else, we are looking for applicants who embody those core values and are able to demonstrate them to us throughout the application process.
Future Prospects:
Upon successful completion of our Apprenticeship Programme, you will qualify as a Solicitor and specialise in one particular area of law. In keeping with our approach of retaining and nurturing talent, we hope that you will choose to remain with us on qualification and have a long, happy and successful career at Myerson!
