As a QHSE Apprentice, you will be part of a dynamic and focused department within the company, who provide support and encouragement towards continual process improvements throughout the company.

British Thornton is the UKs largest manufacturer of furniture for the education sector, and a recent merger is driving our ambitious plans for growth and market disruption. The company has held certification for their Quality, Environment and Health and Safety Management Systems since 1999 with BM Trada.
As a QHSE Apprentice, you will be working to provide support and learn from the QHSE team. You will be part of a dynamic and focused department within the company, who provide support and encouragement towards continual process improvements throughout the company

Typical tasks

  • Updating HSE Matrices on a monthly basis
  • Collating weekly non-conformance data into management departmental reports
  • Producing a weekly dashboard report of key performance indictors to enable the senior team to assess current levels of performance
  • Liaising with departmental managers to ensure timely process or documentation reviews take place
  • Assist with investigations into the root causes of non-conformances
  • Updating QHSE notice boards and information sources as instructed
  • Raising and managing purchase requisitions
  • Managing PPE stock levels
  • Assistance with future maintenance/issue of reporting data from the QHSE department
  • Creating departmental meeting minutes
  • As you develop your skills there will be an opportunity for a capable candidate to progress to additional support tasks such as:
  • Assistance with internal auditing of company systems and procedures
  • Working closely with QHSE Managers to implement long term solutions to correct identified non-conformances
  • Review and collate data to identify non-conformance trends and provide suggests towards solutions

Qualifications required
  • A-levels or equivalent qualifications to allow progression onto a Level 4 programme
  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) grade A*-C inc Maths, English and Science
Future prospects At the end of the apprenticeship, subject to the completion of all training and successful appraisals, the candidate will be offered the opportunity to progress within the company.
