What will the apprentice be doing?

As an apprentice at Arup, you will develop as a BIM specialist within the Building Services Design Team.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the digital process used to develop our technical project designs, creating 3D models, working with building engineering data, all whilst collaborating with a team of Arup engineers and technicians.

The BIM Team are fundamental to the technical delivery of our project where you will develop yourunderstanding ofthe following areas:
  • Awareness of building services design fundamentals through experience delivering projects
  • Use of 3D modelling software/toolsto design and co-ordinate mechanical,electricaland public health servicessuch as Revit, BIM 360 and Revizto
  • Development of building services models and information to support the BIM delivery of projectsin line with industry standards - ISO 19650
  • Use of cloud-based digital collaboration tools to assist the BIM and Information Management process, such as Common Data Environments and BIM Collaboration Tools
  • Receiving, validating,managingand storing information, both digital and hard copy throughout all stages of a project or asset
  • Delivering effective control of all digital and hard copy information recorded in the scope of a project
  • Distributing information accurately and securely to required internal and external recipients within a project team
  • Ensuring the security, including cyber security, of all information disseminated and stored
  • Supporting compliancewith information management protocols and procedures and address any non-compliance
  • Collaborating with IT to ensure the simplification of systems and work methods that are fit for purpose and efficient
  • Supportingcontinuous quality improvement for the safe and secure management of project information
  • Closing projects and handing over information to the client in a manner that supports the future management of the asset, in line with project timescales and quality requirements
  • Awareness of asset management and its implications on projects
  • Awareness of risk management theory and practice

These skills will be developed through practical on-the-job trainingwhilstworking with experiencedBIM practitionersacross the business. You will also have a curriculum of formal training material to support the development of your Knowledge, Skills andBehaviours.

You will be assigned a mentor within your team who you will work and liaise closely with in your day-to-day work.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

As part of your apprenticeship, you'll study towards the Level 4 Information Manager qualification.

You'll study at a local partner college on day release and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace.

Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking theEnd-Point Assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship's English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll have access to our online network. You'll also take internal courses. These cover technical aspects of the business, such as software, but also vital 'soft' skills such as report writing and working effectively.

Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, so you'll continue to progress with Arup once you've completed your course.
