About the apprenticeship
Duties
To provide an effective, flexible and adaptable response to the individual needs of students
To provide one to one or small group support to individual learners as necessary
To meet with individuals, listen to students, offer advice, support and monitor where necessary
To support the efficient running of the school's Vocational Programme
To support the school in its restorative approaches to maintaining high levels of behaviour for learning.
To establish and maintain links with other relevant members of the school's wellbeing and achievement team.
To work closely with The School Vocational Officer and Deputy Headteacher to familiarise yourself with the support systems within the school and external agencies.
To be involved in offering support to students about welfare issues which will include emotional issues and personal problems.
To be responsible for developing resources relating to student wellbeing and liaise with colleagues regarding their distribution.
Maintain school records on attendance, progress, interventions and communications for evaluation, accountability and statutory purposes
Provide lunchtime and break supervision each day, being available for and interacting with students, whilst ensuring that good order is maintained.

Experience and Job-Related Aptitudes
Experience in working with young people in an education setting
Understanding of Restorative Justice approaches and strategies
Experience in positive behaviour management approaches
Ability to engage and motivate learners
A genuine commitment to improving life chances for young people
Professional integrity and high expectations
Willingness to work hard and go the extra mile for young people
Warmth, sensitivity and a good sense of humour
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a wide range of people including parents, students, school staff and professionals outside of the school setting
Experience in Emotional Literacy strategies
An understanding of BESd support strategies
An understanding of ASD support strategies
Specific qualifications in the field of emotional literacy support or emotions coaching.
Appropriate knowledge of general first aid.
Basic understanding and use of technology i.e. computer, video, photocopier.
Evidence of working constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.
The ability to speak Welsh is highly desirable.
