What will the apprentice be doing?

Is a Solicitor Apprenticeship at DWF for you?

We are looking for an aspiring Solicitor who is proactive and dedicated to join a leading global provider of legal services. This six-year programme will provide you with exposure into the role of a solicitor whilst studying to complete an LLB (Hons) Law and Legal Practice and ultimately qualifying as a Solicitor. You will have the opportunity to be inspired by legal professionals everyday across our Legal Advisory and Mindcrest divisions, gaining experience across our practice areas which comprise of Real Estate, Insurance, Corporate Services and Dispute Resolution.

If the alternative route to a legal career is of interest to you, apply to DWF today!

A six-year Solicitor Apprenticeship programme incorporating academic studies with practical learning through day-to-day work at DWF. This role will provide hands on experience, within a fast-paced organisation, across the Mindcrest and Legal Advisory divisions. You will learn to assist with various matters including legal matters, drafting legal documents, and advising and supporting clients.

The first two years of the programme will be spent with one team within either Mindcrest or Legal Advisory, building your legal knowledge and understanding of legal practices within DWF. During the third and fourth year, you will rotate to join a new team to expand your legal knowledge further. The final two years is where you will join our trainee solicitor cohort and complete the Solicitors Qualifying Exam and work towards qualifying; this will consist of four six-month seat rotations across the legal advisory division or may also include a client secondment.

DWF will give you full exposure into the role of a solicitor whilst also allowing you to build rapport and relationships across the business, not just with legal professionals. You will gradually be exposed to complex legal work throughout the six-year apprenticeship, and will work alongside paralegals, solicitors, managers, and partners.

The role of a Solicitor Apprentice is varied and may include:
  • Produce, edit, and draft legal documentation and standard forms
  • Carrying out research into cases for colleagues and clients
  • Minute and note taking at client meetings, settlement negotiations, mediation and court
  • Cataloguing and collation of documentation for disclosure exercises, trial bundles and instructions to Counsel and experts
  • Drafting general correspondence and initial drafting of instructions
  • Advising and supporting clients
  • Managing legal transactions
  • Handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Any other administrative tasks, as required

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the firm.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

As a Solicitor apprentice with BPP, you will complete the Solicitor Level 7 Apprenticeship. Additional learning within the apprenticeship at levels 4, 5 and 6 will enable you to be awarded an LLB (Hons) Law and Legal Practice, from BPP.

Your Level 7 apprenticeship shall be delivered by a blend of online and face-to-face from BPP [alongside our award-winning internal training]. Coupled with the on-the-job learning, completion of the apprenticeship will lead to obtaining your solicitor qualification.

The apprenticeship standard is based on the SRA's Statement of Solicitor Competence. Achievement of the standard and the associated apprenticeship assessment plan will satisfy the SRA's regulatory framework for qualification as a solicitor, subject to the SRA's usual tests of character and suitability.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

DWF is a progressive, innovative global business. Our people are at the centre of everything we do. We provide a rewarding and fulfilling work environment, with routes to develop and the freedom to grow.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to apply for Newly-Qualified Solicitor positions at DWF where we hope that you will have a long and fulfilling legal career. If you decide that you do not wish to be a Solicitor at this stage, we will support you to apply for other permanent positions within DWF.
