What will the apprentice be doing?
Your day to day activities will involve learning about and assisting the commercial department, to achieve financial performance targets and goals by optimising margin and protecting the company from commercial risk whilst supporting the project team to deliver these contracts
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
You will complete a Level 6 Quanity Surveying Apprenticeship. You will attend Sheffield College on day release to complete the academic side of the qualification.
A BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying or equivalent Quantity Surveying Level 6 Diploma that is approved by the industry's recognised professional bodies and meets the educational requirements for the professional bodies' full membership or chartered status.
Knowledge and competence training as dictated by the standard
Over a 5-year program, our apprenticeships combine the academic college/university studies with real life work based experience across our organisation. You will have the opportunity to build and gather evidence of your competence whilst working towards a formal qualification.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Alstom offer opportunities to extend apprenticeship learning through to degree and chartered status if the candidate is suitable and the business need exists.

GCSE or equivalent IT (Grade 5 to 9) Desired
A Level or equivalent 3 Subjects/120 UCAS points (Grade BBB) Essential
Your day to day activities will involve learning about and assisting the commercial department, to achieve financial performance targets and goals by optimising margin and protecting the company from commercial risk whilst supporting the project team to deliver these contracts
- Support with the management of client accounts
- Assist in establishing contemporaneous records in compliance with projects systems which identify progress, delays and controlled change management
- Management of client & supplier accounts - support with the administration of sub-contractor accounts from project start up through to final account, including the administration of sub-contract payments and issuing payment notices
- Commercial & contract guidance - work with the commercial team to understand the key principles of construction contracts and their application
- Record keeping - assist in establishing contemporaneous records in compliance with projects systems which identify progress, delays and controlled change management. Contributing to event registers and entitlement documentation
- Financial targets & budgets - provide support which aligns with the commercial management strategy, participating in the production of monthly project reviews and attend work package management reviews
- Support, relationships & procedures - establish good relationships within project teams, the supply chain (including sub-contractors), and the client in line with Alstom procedures
- Best practice - support the expansion of best practice within the commercial team
