What will the apprentice be doing?
To be part of and support the project management community within Alstom who are responsible for end to end delivery of a project or subset of a project, dependent on the complexity and criticality to the business. The project management team work with a cross-disciplinary team to deliver the project to time, cost and quality requirements.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
You will complete the Level 6 Project Management degree apprenticeship with York St John's University. You will attend workshops at the York campus.
Apprentices will achieve either a BA or BSc Honours degree in Project Management. Apprentices are required to achieve an International Project Management Association (IPMA) Level D qualification or equivalent, prior to taking the end point assessment.
Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Alstom offer learning and opportunities that include reaching chartered status if the candidate is suitable and the business need exists.

- Learn the project management principles to drive project / program execution, to maximize the results with respect to cash and margin whilst understanding delivery of projects on time, in conformity with the contract/Program Charter according to customer expectations and the requirements on EHS
- Understand the value to seek additional opportunities in the frame of the contract/Program Charter with awareness to ensure Alstom Transport legal and contractual rights are protected
- Developing and documenting components of projects as required by the project team
- Cost estimating, analysis and control activities
- Scheduling development, maintenance and monitoring
- Risk, assumptions, issues, dependencies and opportunities management
- Earned value management analysis and control activities
- Providing data to support business cases, strategic plans and customer presentations
- Gaining an overview from PMs of bid evaluation and contract negotiations
- Building and maintaining a network of internal business contacts and peers to share and gain knowledge and identify opportunities to learn and develop
- Owning and being responsible for personal and professional development across the business
