What will the apprentice be doing?

For the four years you will be on day release at Cambridge Regional College with your remaining time spent on placements, typically lasting three months. Some placements may be longer to develop specific ME skills.

The rotational placements and experiences you will gain on this scheme have been tailored to give you the skills required to become an engineer within the Mechanical Engineering Function. Placements will include:
  • Mechanical Design
  • Mechanical Analysis
  • Materials and Processes
  • Design Definition Office
  • Configuration management
  • Environmental Engineering & Facilities

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Aerospace mandatory qualification Level 4 Diploma in Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing (Development Competence).

HNC qualification in Mechanical Engineering.

This programme will teach you to use industry standard engineering software packages such as Creo Parametric, Altair HyperMesh, and Ansys.

As a Mechanical Engineering apprentice, your workplace placement plan will be designed to best prepare you for graduation into the Mechanical Engineering (ME) Function. ME is involved in all aspects of a products life-cycle; from early development and research, through to in service support. This opportunity will give you the skills required to design, make, and test the next generation of missile system hardware.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Through regular one to ones, development plans and the use of Mentors, you will have the opportunity to shape your career within the organisation. We have many senior members in the organisation that started life as an MBDA apprentice.

This is a great opportunity to work with state-of-the-art technologies which also opens up many opportunities for progression after your apprenticeship - such as: people manager, technical specialist, project manager, and beyond
